Cattala has a traditional education system that hasn’t been changed dramatically for decades. It is an effective system, and has been heavily influenced by the British system.



There are five stages to education in Cattala – Viviao, Elementare, Secondaria, Accademia and Università. Cattala has State, Private and Religious schools but all follow this system. State schools are fully funded by the Government, whilst religious schools obtain up to 50% of their funding from their religious community.



This is a chart of the typical school hours, days and terms. It varies by local authority and whether the schools are state or religious. The Term Dates chart uses 2011-12 as an example academic year.



Viviao is the first stage of education a child enters. Between the ages of 2 and 4, children are offered part-time places at Viviao Infante schools. Between the ages of 4 and 7, children are offered full-time places at Viviao schools. In 2010, 96% of Elementare children had attended Viviao, and it is an informal introduction to learning, mainly through playing and fun activities.



Elementare is the first stage of compulsory education. Children join Elementare school in the academic year of their seventh birthday, and leave at the age of 11. At Elementare school, there are no formal examinations, and it is focused on teaching children basic skills.



Here is the Government curriculum for each year of Elementare school. There are at least 4 hours of extra time that teachers can use outside of the curriculum to teach, so it isn’t completely strict. Some schools put more time into teaching English and Maths, whilst many Catholic schools teach up to 4 hours of Religious Studies per week. The “outside of curriculum” time is break or lunch time.



Secondaria Scuola is the second stage of compulsory education. Students attend Secondaria school from the age of 11, after finishing Elementare, and leave at the age of 16, to go to an apprenticeship or Accademia. In years Eight and Nine students take their CGIS exam, an academic qualification, which is then used for applications to Accademia’s, on CVs and Università applications. Some students also take IGCSE’s, a similar qualification used worldwide.



As you can see, the basic secondaria education is quite simple, and follows on from elementare education, but upper Secondaria is more complex. For your CGIS, the Government aims for most child to get at least 3 A*-C grades, with most Accademia’s and Università’s looking for at least 5. English, Italian, Maths and Science is all compulsory, and most schools aim to get as many students as possible studying for at least 8 CGIS exams, which is an extra 1-3 optional subjects. In faith schools, Religious Studies is a compulsory CGIS examination.



Accademia is the last stage of compulsory education. Students either attend Academies or go into a full-time apprenticeship at the age of 16, after completing their CGIS exams. Accademia is the equivalent of college and is normally attended by people aged between 16 and 18. In Accademia, students study subjects of their choice which are provided by that Academy and they are much more specialised than at Secondaria level. Some Secondaria schools have small Academy’s on site, so students have the option to go from secondary schooling into tertiary education at the same facility.



Università is the Cattalian name for University, where adults who have finished compulsory education can study for degrees. The largest Universities in Cattala are Jennai City, Celeste, Italia Gennaio, Calora and Lessito. Thanks for visiting Cattala!

Cattala has a competitive national media, with much more investment in both public and commercial broadcasting than other nations of a similar size. Because of this, a number of the channels are broadcast across the world and have high numbers of overseas viewers.



Cattala’s three largest newspapers are the Daily Telegraphy, La Giornale and The Shield. All three are sold across the Mediterranean, with the Daily Telegraph even publishing as far a field as Arcacia and Northern Veratlantia. La Giornale focuses on bankers and businesspeople, whilst the Shield is a sensationalist paper that is targeted at the lower classes.



The largest broadcaster is the publically-funded Royal Media International, which broadcasts four television channels and three radio stations across Cattala.



RMI One is the most-watched channel in Cattala, and shows dramas, comedies, English imports and news bulletins. It shares facilities with RMI Two, which broadcasts documentaries, news and current affairs, Greek and Italian language programmes and local broadcasts.



RMI Three is a newly-launched digital channel, which broadcasts children’s programming during the day and educational shows until network closedown at 12am. All RMI channels close at 12am and start broadcasting at 5am, except RMI News 24.



RMI News 24 is broadcast across the Mediterranean and is RMI’s only 24-hour channel. It was launched in 2001 and simulcasts the 6-9am show, Breakfast, with RMI One, and also simulcasts the Lunchtime News, RMI News at Six and RMI News at Ten with RMI One. Provincial news bulletins are shown during the simulcasts, and regional programming also airs on weekend evenings.



The second channel provider in Cattala is 3 Television, which is owned by NM Group. Channel 3, which broadcasts as 3, holds 15% of the audience on average and works in partnership with other NM Group channels. It broadcasts dramas, comedies, sitcoms and films, and specialises in American imports.



The fourth channel in Cattala is Quattro, which is the last terrestrial channel and is owned by MIP, Media Indipendenti Produzioni. Quattro broadcasts game shows and reality shows, as well as Italian language shows during the day. Most of its shows are Italian language, and therefore it competes with Rai, amongst others, for viewers.



CNS is Cattala’s other news outlet, owned by NM Group. It produces bulletins for Channel 3 and Quattro, as well as running a profitable news website and operating on smart phones and tablet devices. It pools resources with Rai in Italy and ITN in the UK. It’s full name is Cattala-Notizie-Società.



Here is Cattala’s classification system for films and television, and video games. Cattala uses the PEGI system for gaming and has a strict film and television classification system – many films that are 12 ratings in other countries are rated 15 in Cattala, for example. Above 18 is the “Banned” rating for both of these classification.



There are many international providers in Cattala – as shown above. The BBC is the biggest non-Cattalian broadcaster, followed by Rai. If you have any questions about Cattala’s media, please tell me and I will try to answer them.

Cattala has a royal family that is almost as old as the country itself. They are the ambassadors for the nation and are recognisable to any Cattalian – they are the most celebrated asset to the country. Here’s more information on Cattala’s foremost aristocrats.



The family tree can be traced back to the 10th century, when the first King of Cattala, King Roger Celestine, controlled what is now Amosseri province and was recognised as the ruler of the island. His family remained at the pinnacle of society for another 800 years, despite some opposition.



However, in 1814, King Harold was forced to abdicate the throne when the British threatened the island and Cattala became a Crown Colony. Harold and his family remained in Celestine, their city, throughout British rule. The Italian invasion in 1860 led to Prince Amadeus, the son of Harold, forming a militia army and the King of Italy duly gave the fighting prince a small “kingdom” including Celestine. 57 years later, and the Celestine’s were restored to the throne following a civil war in which the Italian puppet President of Cattala was burnt to death. King Charles the Third ruled Cattala for 22 years, until his entire family was executed by Mussolini’s troops when they invaded in 1940. The Celestine family was dead – there was no direct heir to the throne.



After the war was over, Cattala voted to re-instate the monarchy. The great-great-nephew of King Harold was Marco Bonnecelli, who moved to England before the war, accepted the throne and became King Marco VI.



Marco died in 1963, and was succeeded by his son, King Roger XVI. Roger lived a solitary life and never married and had no legitimate heirs. His sister, Elizabeth, became Queen after him, at the age of 60. She ruled for 7 years before her death.



Elizabeth lost her husband, Vincent, 5 years before becoming Queen and her son, George, had died in a car accident in 1986, when his three children were aged 11, 9 and 3. Elizabeth spent much of her 7 year reign helping raise her grandchildren and spent lots of time with Alexandra, preparing her to become Queen. Alexandra became the youngest monarch in 500 years when she ascended to the throne at the age of 19.



Alexandra was engaged to her childhood friend Luciano Vaas when she became Queen, and married him two months after her coronation. She gave birth to her first son, Edward, in December of 1994. Controversially, it emerged that she had conceived Edward before her marriage. Alexandra gave birth to Helena in 1997 and Louis in 2000, and began serving her full duties as Monarch in 2001.



Between 1994 and 2001, Queen Alexandra was raising her children, and it was decided that she should hand over more of her responsibilities to Princess Gabriella and Duchess Adriana. So for that seven year period, Princess Gabriella was Princess Regent of Cattala. Since then, she has taken a secondary role beside her sister, and travels overseas representing Cattala. Gabriella is Duchess of the Cape and resides in the royal palaces of Cape Point.



Princess Maria is the youngest daughter of Prince George and the 5th in line to the throne. Maria has helped raise Queen Alexandra’s three children and helped educate Princess Helena in her role as a member of the royal household. Princess Maria holds the most esteemed duchy, Royal Amosseri, and lives in one of the grandest palaces in Cattala, outside of Celeste. She also owns apartments in Nyhaven, Milan and Klow. Maria married Duke Ariales in 2009.

Well I haven't been planning the Expo for 14 months - I've been working on things like the royal family for 14 months. That's how long I've had Cattala.

It's just about putting in the work - I only go back to looking at the family every few months or so (last time was June, I edited it again this week) and see things that aren't realistic, so I change them.

This is all simply amazing, I'm learning so much about Cattala, more then I've ever known before!! Bravo!

Welcome back to the Cattala Expo Pavillion. Today we’re looking at the Armato Salvatori – Cattala’s Armed Forces. It is split into four central parts – the Marino, Terra, Cielo and Pattria. The largest contingent is the semi-professional Pattria, but the most highly-funded is the Cielo.



Naval command has been important for Cattala since it was a colony, and the Salvatori Marino remains a strong part of the Armato. It is based in Quentin and also has docks in Calora, Rhodes and in the Ionian province. Spending on the Salvatori Marino has risen faster than other military areas in recent years, especially with the ₴1.9 billion aircraft carrier project, which will be completed by 2014 and will be the biggest and most expensive ship in the Armato Salvatore’s history. The fleet include four submarines, one Spiri-class destroyer, ten Protettorato-class frigates and six corvettes amongst others. In the future, the Salvatori Marino will be led by the aircraft carrier and plans are underway to construct two more Spiri-class destroyers.



The specialist area of the Cattalian military is the Cielo Salvatori, which is the Air force. Currently the Cielo Salvatori has 40,000 personnel and has served recently in Afghanistan, Kosovo and Acijnstan. The Cielo also supports the coastguard during search and rescue missions and patrolling for illegal immigration by sea. The Cielo’s biggest assets are its fleets of Eurofighter Typhoons, Tornado GR4’s, Hawk jets and Chinook helicopters. In the future, the Cielo Salvatori is set to develop its own aircraft with the Galbadian Air Force and the Atlantic Federation, alongside purchasing F-35 fighters from the USA.



The Terra Salvatore is Cattala’s land force, consisting of 30,000 personnel and is also supported by the 60,000-strong Patria Protettori. The Terra is split into 3 Brigades and numerous small Battalion Strike Forces (BSFs). The Terra Salvatore’s central tanks are it’s Challenger II group and its soldiers are armed with the latest machine guns, rifles and side arms. The most infamous group of soldiers is the First Sniper Platoon, who were seen on the rooftops of Roumeli buildings during riots in 1949 – hours later, hundreds of rioters were shot with live rounds by special forces. The Terra Salvatore used to have an air division, which was disbanded in 2001 and moved to the Cielo Salvatore.



The Patria Protettori is the reserve force for Cattala’s army. It was set up in 1941, as a resistance force against the occupation. They form the semi-professional army that is based at home in the United Kingdom, and are trained soldiers. They earn no direct salary but they don’t have to pay some taxes, or get reductions on others. The Patria Protettori is also associated with the Servizio Civile, and many 18 year olds are encouraged to enrol in the Patria as part of their civilian service. 25% of Patria Protettori soldiers are called up for overseas tours and during the Hiigaran blockade, the entire Patria was on full alert for deployment - the first time in its history that the 60,000-strong force was partially mobilised for duty.



Cattala’s special forces are the Forza D’Assalto – or Strike Force in English. They have been deployed all over the globe and their operations remain secretive. They have only been compromised publically once in their 69 year history. They were formed to counter the fascist occupation of Cattala, and have since become an elite unit that is shrouded in mystery. Following the war, they were used as anti-rebellion troops. It's most infamous deployment was to Roumeli in 1949, in which up to 1000 rioters were shot and wounded by Forza troops, with 294 of the rioters dying. They haven’t been deployed on Cattalian soil in 18 years.



Servizio Civile is Cattala’s civilian service scheme, that is compulsory for 18 year olds. They must serve at least 1 year in the SC, which has been in place since 1930 and was extended prior to axis occupation. There are three options open to them: serving in public services, such as hospitals, nursing homes and lifeguard stations, fulfilling military service or participating in community service, such as environmental improvement schemes and public amenity projects. People with serious medical and mental conditions are excused from Servizio Civile, and those who serve in the Armato Salvatore count this as their SC. 30% of Patria Protettori members began training as part of their civilian service.
