Proposal | Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Empty Proposal | Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty

Post by Daniel 3rd June 2010, 18:20

Under this proposal, member nations of the AIN would agree to:

1) Non-proliferation of nuclear arms:
- Member states would not purchase, nor produce nuclear arms

2) Disarmament of existing nuclear arms:
- Member states would disarm and decommission any and all existing nuclear arms

3) The right to peacefully use nuclear technology:
- Member states would use nuclear technology only for peaceful purposes, including (but not limited to) nuclear power and space exploration

Nuclear weapons are the single greatest threat to global security. A nuclear war would affect not only the targets, but their neighbours. A global nuclear war would spell the end of humanity.

Post by Neil 3rd June 2010, 19:35

Holidian will not ratify this treaty - we currently have 16 nuclear weapons which we share with non-nuclear powers as part of out NATO membership agreement. The United Islands of Ollingdale are also negotiating a weaponry sharing deal with us.

The disarment of the AIN would result in even more unsureity and unstabilty.

This would be a treaty, so it would be voluntary. No nation would be forced to sign it and it would not be binding to non-signatories.

Post by Thomas 3rd June 2010, 20:04

The United Islands of Ollingdale will refuse to sign this treaty due to the ongoing discussions with Holidia about nuclear arms-sharing and a military coalition.
We support trying to prevent nuclear conflicts, but at this time we cannot risk not being protected as a nation, especially since most nations around us have nuclear weapons and capability.

Shushtrepistaz will not take a part in this treaty, since the removal could cause more tension then needed in weaker nations nearby, which would be threatened by Brenzaltan

No signing from Bob, because we don't want to lose have any nuclear weapons. This might be signed if we didn't have to disarm our nukes it was more sensible.

It's perfectly sensible. Those of us who are slightly uncomfortable with the notion of mutual annihilation would give up or agree not to accumulate weapons which have the capacity, not only to destroy everyone and everything within a 30km radius, but render the area radioactive for 10,000 years.

Lower Columbia has no nuclear weapons as a matter of domestic policy, but would be willing to sign such a treaty as a show of support.

Escambia does have nuclear weapons. But only a limited number. We do not newly produce new nuclear weapons. We would sign this treaty if the disarmament was not in it. Because personally we do not believe in nuclear warfare

Here's a bit of a loophole for you:

Though disarmament will remain as part of the treaty, nations are free to set their own timetable. So, if you have nukes that will be good for the next 20 years, set your disarmament date for 2030.

Post by Neil 4th June 2010, 16:03

Holidia has come to decision that they will sign this treaty with a clause for disarment - this will not happen without referendum of the people and a 8/10 majority in the assembly.

Therefore no exact timetable is set - but it will be within a year of when the people and politicians of our nation agree it is appropriate.

Are these terms acceptable?

Yes. Yes they are.

Final details of each clause will be added when this moves to the voting chamber. They will be simple and should prove acceptable to all participating nations.

When this does go to the vote, there will be two options: Sign and abstain.

You can dismantle the nuclear weapons in the year 3000 if you want(they won't survive to 3000 anyway). You can sign it while keeping your nukes.

Also, exactly how powerful is your nation?

The Gansbaai Kingdoms will not sign this. We have 8 nuclear wepons for the purpose of.... well, a threat. Gansbaai has a very small military force (probably one of the smallest in all of the AIN) If we did not have some kind of threatining wepon/force, Gansbaai could be easily defeted in almost any conflict. We, the parliment of the Gansbaai Kingdoms hope everyone understands.
