Man of the Match: Suntke Saathoff (Freeport Sounders FC), 3 goals/hat-trick and 1 assist

This is your 2010 AIFF Club World Cup recap, brought to you by Air Duwamish, fly green.

At beautiful Cowlitz Riverside Stadium on the Duwamish River, over 26,000 spectators watched the Freeport Sounders FC of Escambia boot Expedition United from Central Texas out of the playoffs in a 4-to-1 win. Sunkte Saathoff, star of the Sounders and captain of the Escambian national team, scored off a free kick about 30 yards out, hammering it into the top right corner, giving Expedition keeper Vance Davies no chance at a miracle save. Saathoff would continue to dominate the game, later heading another in shortly before halftime off a corner.

At halftime, Freeport led 2–0 as Expedition would regroup and prepare to try and hold on to the glimmer of a semifinal spot. About ten minutes after halftime ended, Sunkte Saathoff continued his magic and found a way through Expedition's defense and passed it off to Sam Lester to make it 3–0. As the game drew to a close, Saathoff scored after a breakaway, taking advantage of a fault in Expedition's five-man midfield, and scored, his third goal of the night, which meant a hat-trick. As Freeport began cheering at their guaranteed semifinal spot, Alex Smith began a 12-second 40-yard dash after a breakway and scored for Expedition, but it wasn't enough to send Freeport packing.
