Animal Torturer Gets 5 years

YORKE - A 22 year old man who was found guilty last week of animal cruelty has been given the maximum sentence and will spend the next 5 years of his life behind bars.

Eric March of Cape Cooley was convicted in the Yorke Bay District Court of animal cruelty after he uploaded a video of himself torturing a cat with fireworks, a cigarette lighter and pins. Internet users were able to identify the man and the location within 24 hours and Arcacian police were inundated with calls from all over the world.

The man was arrested and the cat, who had been let to starve, was placed in the care of the ASPCA. The 2 year old cat has since been adopted by a Yorke family and is said to be making a good recovery, though she dislikes being alone and is said to be wary of men.

A spokesman from the Arcacian Psychological Service said that people that torture animals sometimes develop into serial killers. However, family and friends of Mr March say that the conviction is highly our of character as he has always been gentle with animals and shown a great deal of compassion.

Mr March will be eligible for parole in 2013, subject to a psychological examination.

Sounds like that disgusting woman who threw a cat in a wheelie bin, and it was stuck in there for 16 hours. She was hounded and heckled when she went to court.
