The People's Republic of Nanzhao - Trade and Relations

The People's Republic of Nanzhao is a large nation located at the crossroads of East and South East Asia. With an estimated population of 289 million it is the fourth most populated country in the world and by far the most populated in the SCJU not counting the Atlantean Empire. The country was proclaimed in 1950 after the end of the Chinese civil war.
Nanzhao is ruled by the Nanzhao Communist Party which has been in charge for over 60 years now, putting in place many vital service that have transformed the country such as free education and healthcare.

Nanzhao is a major economic power with the 7th largest economy by PPP at $2.6 trillion roughy equal to the UK's. Since economic liberalisation in the late 70's early 80's the economy has been growing at nearly 9-10% a year and is forcasted to grow by 9.6% in 2011. Manufacturing is a major part of the economy and accounts for roughly 44% of the GDP with an emphasis on cheap goods such as toys, consumer electronics and plastic products that are exported around the globe. Because of the sheer amount of products manufactured, Nanzhao has to import vast quantities of raw materials such as Iron, Coal, Oil and Aluminium making it the 7th largest importer and 6th largest exporter of goods and services.
The rapid development has pulled over 100 million out of poverty but still 89 million live on less than $2 a day making it the SCJU's poorest nation overall and one of the poorest in East Asia.

Nanzhao has very good relations with a majority of the world but concerns about human rights abuses have at times strained relations with Europe and North America and this has lead to arms bans from the EU, USA and a few other countries. Nanzhao is a member of many international organisations such as G20, G20 - Developing nations, Association of South East Asian Nantions, United Nations, SimCity Journal Union and the WTO.
