Let's cross check the Human Development Indexes with real life countries.

All nations AIN and RL with a HDI of at least .950. AIN countries are in bold.

In case you didn't see it, the top is a pile of AIN nations. Which means the people at the top need a good reason as to why their HDIs are at the top of the world.

Daniel: I can explain Duwamish's high HDI: Poor is almost non-existant, abundance of jobs, min. wage is very high (higher than RL WA min. wage), housing is abundant (homelessness is down to less than 10,000).

It's called Human Development index for a reason, not Human "Standard of Living" Index.

According to the UN, HDI are calculated using only 4 factors:
Life expectancy at birth
Adult literacy rate
Combined primary, secondary and tertiart gross enrolment ratio
GDP per capita

The above 4 factors are then calculated into 3 indexes:
Life expectancy index
Education index
GDP index

The three indexes are then added then divided into 3, giving the HDI of any city/country.

Stuffs like wages, job availability and housing availability are not calculated.

I actually downloaded an Excel sheet available online to calculate you country's HDI. Alternatively, a HDI Calculator is available online: http://hdr.undp.org/en/statistics/data/calculator/

Cattala's HDI is similar to the one I achieved on the HDI Calculator.

Arcacia is a tiny country with a HUGE bank account. The Arcacian definition of "poverty" is earning less that $30,000 a year. Welfare recipients get about $20,000 a year (double what Australians receive). We have free health care, free education and strong environmental policies.

In Australia, there are communities of indigenous Australians living in desert towns where education, health and hygiene levels are much lower. It is this reason Australia has an HDI of 0.970. Arcacia doesn't have that. We are not being dragged down by an entire group of people that the government has chosen to ignore and who's life expectancy is, as a result of centuries of neglect by an apathetic ruling class, up to 30 years lower than a white Australian.

As a result of us actually caring about our citizens, the standard of living in Arcacia is extremely high. Human rights is the cornerstone of our democracy and the government has accepted responsibility to ensure that the rights of Arcacians are upheld. Not just the bare minimum, either.

Arcacia is not profit driven, like most governments around the world. The welfare of the citizenry is of the highest priority. As a result, Arcacians are able to enjoy a high standard of living. We have worked very hard to achieve this it's something we are very proud of.

Another reason is the Gold Standard. Our currency is pegged to the price of gold. As a result, we haven't had a recession. Ever. During the Great Depressiona dn the GFC, it was business as usual here.

Our economy, social policy and environmental policy are the reasons why Arcacia's HDI is so high.

So let me get this straight. Arcacia is rich and is a social welfare state. That's almost an oxymoron. If Arcacia is so tiny, where does it get its wealth from? According to what you have just stated, the government of Arcacia is not profit-driven, so where does all this money come from?

Also, in Arcacia, poverty is less than $30,000. That's absurd. There are surely people who don't want to pursue higher levels of education and drop out. Also, does it mean to say cleaners get paid lots of money?

Being small and "out of the way", Arcacia certainly does not have a geographical edge over other countries. Also, with its small population, we don't expect it to have extremely high levels of industrialisation to generate national income.

Finally, how does Arcacia fund its free healthcare and education systems? Having a small population is a blessing in this case, but surely the state does not fork out $700,000 for university fees every year and thousands more for healthcare, which can range from the common cold to the occasional surgery.

By the way, a HDI of 0.970 is very high. In fact, its better than Singapore's (0.944)

It would be better if each one introduce its own country, so that I could suggest a new realistic HDI.

(Ps: I know a lot about Geography, I went to the semifinals of the National Geographic Challenge on Brazil, and I can compare everyone's country with a RL one (I used Japan for mine's, I didn't make my HDI lower since the begining because I compared my country with other AIN one's.), with a book from 2009 that includes all the information of all countries and territories on the Earth and other interesting facts that could be associated to your countries according to the discription you give me below. Only the countries with a "suggested" HDI should make this, unless you are unsure about yours and want it to be better caulated.)

For 200 years, Arcacia has been hoarding gold, silver, platinum and other precious metals. We invest a great deal of money which provides a great deal of return.

ALSO: Arcacia owns Australian Airlines and East-West Airlines. The Australian domestic aviation market is one of the most lucrative markets in the world, simply because major cities are so far away from each other that flying is often a necessity. The profits flow up to Arcacian Airlines, which is state owned.

Just because we're not concerned with profits doesn't mean we're not turning a profit. We just direct those profits into initiatives that are focused on making the life of the average Arcacian just that little bit better.

How is being rich and a welfare state and oxymoron? Australia is rich and a welfare state.

Where do you get $700,000 in university fees from? Most degrees run a tenth of that. Healthcare for a quarter of a million people doesn't cost as much as you think it would. Having a totally free healthcare system actually works out cheaper. People access healthcare early, so small problems don't develop into big, expensive ones.

Yes, cleaners get paid. Most will be earning at least $20 an hour. There are some that work full time, some that don't.

Of course Arcacia has drop-outs, but they account for a very small proportion of individuals. We are a welfare state, but with an average of under 10,000 people claiming unemployment benefit at any one time, it doesn't add up to very much.

How is Arcacia "out of the way" exactly? We share a border with Australia. New Zealand is 3 hours away and Asia is 6 hours away. Just because we are not within spitting distance of the US does not mean that we've fallen off the edge of the Earth.

In terms of industry, Arcacia is predominantly high-tech. You're right, we don't produce a huge AMOUNT of exports, we produce high QUALITY exports. Our industry is mainly concerned with scientific research which we then sell to other governments and large corporations.

Tax laws in Arcacia also favour large corporations with many global companies having offices here. This provides jobs and income.

I am fully aware that 0.970 is very high. I happen to live in Australia. However, Arcacia does not have the type of baggage that Australia has. Arcacia does not have the same corrupted government that Australia has. Arcacia does not have several tiers of corrupt government, like Australia has. Arcacia does not piddle away billions of dollars on paying politicians long after they're out of office like Australia does. Arcacia does not piddle away billions of dollars on useless projects that no-one wants or needs that don't eventuate even after they're paid for like Australia does.

ARCACIA HAS NO MILITARY so we don't pay billions of dollars for weaponry.

Arcacia is a tourist hot-spot which happens to be on the way between Sydney and Brisbane. We get a couple of million tourists each year. The average tourist arriving by road from Australia will spend about $1500. This does not include tourists arriving by air, nor internal tourism, especially to Saint Vincent.

Arcacia is concerned with one thing and one thing only. The welfare of our citizens. Arcacia is, above all else, a place where people live. When you make quality of life a nations primary goal, it pays off. This is something I think a lot of countries, especially those that call themselves "first-world" should probably think about.

If Australia had the same mentality, we wouldn't have a huge gap between white Australia and aboriginal Australia.

If the US had the same mentality, they wouldn't have a huge deficit and millions of so-called "working poor."

Yet, these countries still have a very high HDI. Tell that to the Aboriginal living in a makeshift shack with no electricity or running water and no job prospects and a life expectancy of 50. Tell that to the woman in Kentucky who has to work 3 jobs just to keep food on the table but is still in severe debt, living hand to mouth and can't afford heat in Winter. Tell that to the Australian man who has never been to the dentist because he can't afford it. Tell that to the American woman dying of perfectly curable cancer because she can't afford chemotherapy.

Arcacia has none of this because we've worked very hard since dot to ensure that our citizens rights are upheld.

I am totally moving to Arcacia.
