Proposal | Operation Emergency
Ok. I'm sure that you guys have heard that one of the possible reason why the Confederacy of Free Regions (COFR), one of the largest union within the Sims Community, collapse is because of the sudden unaccessability of their original website.
As our union, the Alliance of Independent Nations (AIN), is constantly receiving new members ever month, AIN could not afford to breakdown at our peak. Although the situation of our AIN website suddenly becomes unaccessable is rarely possible, proper measures could be taken so that our union will not collapses during times of crisis beyond our control.
Called Operation Emergency, here are the steps that I am proposing in case the AIN website becomes unavailable for a long period of time.
1) All official members (both junior and full members) of the Alliance of Independent Nations (AIN) and members applying to join AIN must provide their email address(es). The administrators of AIN will take down these email address(es) for emergency uses.
2) All official members and applying members must make sure that all email addresses by these administrators are not labelled as spam email addresses.
3) Should the website becomes unaccessable for a period of time (to be determined), here are the steps members of AIN must follow:
A) Someone (to be determined) must immediately create a temporary website from a reliable web-creation or forum-creation website (to be determined).
B) The administrators will then inform all official members of AIN and applying members about the new temporary website through the email addresses provided by the respective members.
C) Should there be any advertising threads on any Sims Community websites (e.g. Simtropolis, SC4 Devotion, SimSports), the person responsible for the respectively advertising threads must state the website link to the temporary website.
D) All official members and applying members must reply to a special thread at the new temporary as part of a headcount. This is to ensure that all official AIN members and applying members are aware of the temporary website.
E) If there is a case where any official AIN members and applying members that does not reply to the "headcount" thread, the administrators must constantly try to contact that particular member with a time period (to be determined) until he or she replies to the "headcount" thread.
F) Once the time period has expired, he or she may be deemed as Missing in Action (MIA). However, he or she will not be stripped of from any position or abilities. The usual member activity check will continue to take place.
4) Once the original AIN website is up and running, Steps 3A to 3F will be repeated on the original AIN website.
Operation Emergency may not be full-prove, but it sure provide a chance for a revival of AIN should this current have been hit be a long term unaccessability.
So, should we approve this proposal? Are there any changes we should make before voting and implementation?

Yes, I approve. I can be one of those in charge of the Simtropolis memos, since I am there practically every day.

Re: Proposal | Operation Emergency
I like it, especially the email idea.
But maybe have two threads, one at simsports and one at simtropolis in case AIN does die. But I think that darkbb is a pretty reliable source, I mean simsports has been alive for about two years now

Re: Proposal | Operation Emergency
I'm going along with this. When do we begin sending our emails via PM?
Re: Proposal | Operation Emergency
Ray: We'll do it once this gets a majority approval (which I think it will anyway).
Peter: Darkbb may be a reliable source but you won't know when some idiotic hacker hacks onto the system and cause chaos. It's good to play safe.
So now, before we being to vote, let's discuss on a few matters first.
1) What is the timeframe in order to deem that the AIN website is unaccessable? Maintenance for Darkbb do occur (it happens last time). I'm sure we guys don't like a false alarm.
2) Who will create a temporary website and where (I have Freewebs in mind)?
3) If a member does not respond to the "headcount", how long does he/she have to respond in order not to be marked as MIA?
Btw, I came up with this idea when I was taking a shower.

Re: Proposal | Operation Emergency
i think we should do two websites, but at simtropolis & sc4, because if a hacker does hack in, he'll probably hack into the main darkbb.com, not just the ain
Re: Proposal | Operation Emergency
yeah great idea. If need be, I could create a temp website and forums on freewebs.com
I'm pretty familiar with the format.

B) The Administrators will then inform all Official Members and Applying Members about the new temporary website through the email addresses provided by the respective members.
C) Should there be any advertising threads for AIN on any Sims Community websites (e.g. Simtropolis, SC4 Devotion, SimSports), the person responsible for the respectively advertising threads must state the website link to the temporary website.
D) All Official Members and Applying Members must reply to the Headcount thread at the new temporary website. This is to ensure that all Official Members and Applying Members are aware of the new temporary website.

However, he or she will not be stripped of from any position or abilities. Any MIA Applying Members are still allowed to apply for a membership for AIN. The usual Member Activity Check will continue to take place.

Re: Proposal | Operation Emergency
Aran - there may be a free service that automatically mirrors existing sites. I'll look into it and let you know.
That being said, we need a protocol like the one you have proposed as the demise of the AIN is something that doesn't bare thinking about.
I'll do a bit of research, but imn the meantime, if everyone PM's their email address to you and then you PM a list to everyone, that will be a good start.

Ok, sure.
Soon, I'll be opening a thread for all current AIN members to send in their respective email addresses.

Hmmm... I don't know about that. Better just to encourage members to PM their email addresses.

Oh darn. I've forgotten about this.
The thread will be up soon.
And am I allowed to create polls on the Voting Chamber regarding on all the proposal I've propose, or only the admins are allowed to do that?
