Proposal: Moving AIN Meetings to Skype

After today's fiasco on MSN, I'm of the mind that it's neither the most stable, nor even the most functional or user friendly system. Therefore, I would like to propose that future AIN meetings take place on Skype. It's completely free and very stable. Also, it is more user friendly and won't result in members being unable to connect to a meeting.

Moving the meetings to Skype is as easy as 1 2 3.
1.DOWNLOAD SKYPE
2. Swap usernames
3. Create a group and put all of the other AIN usernames in it

Here's how:

First, go to "Contacts" and select "Create new group"


Then, simply drag the AIN member contacts into the box at the top


To have a voice chat with the entire group, simply click "Call Group"


You'll notice that at the bottom of the Skype console, there is a regular chat box. This means that if we want to have a regular type-and-send meeting, all you have to do is click on the group and you're in.

What I propose is the following:

Get Skype and then PM your username to one of the admins (or me, if none of them want to be flooded with PMs) and a list of Skype IDs will be created and then PMd to all members. Add everyone as contacts and then follow the steps above to create a group. That's it. All done. Easy.

Skype is a WHOLE lot better, believe me. I'm on the verge of uninstalling MSN.

Blakeway - nobody is going to laugh at your accent. Besides, we don't have to do voice chat, Skype works just as well using your keyboard. If you're really concerned, I have a friend who was raised speaking French and I could ask him to translate for you if you would be uncomfortable speaking English.

I'm not in for this proposal as I don't like swapping between IMs just for one group (Skype for AIN, MSN for General). I used to use both MSN and Yahoo! Messenger but it's too troublesome for me.

Btw, for those who attended the summit, what problems did you guys experience during the summit?

Skype is really easy. I got msn and skype both open. Personally im for Skype more. It has great features on mac

Just wondering, Sypke and MSN doesn't connect well, right? As in you can't chat on MSN with ppl on Sypke and vice versa.

No, it's ok, he won't understand my accent unless if he learn French from a Quebecer. Well I won't do voice chatt, but I can hear and I'll writte is that ok?

Blakeway and DC - Yes, you can do either or both. I think to start, we'll just use regular chat and then see where it goes from there.

Okay, well maybe I try it. I heard alot of good feedback on Skype. I just don't have a webcam or microphone. However, if we can use chat instead, I'm all for it.
