Main Page Redesign?

I propose that the boring homepage of the AOIN Wikia be modified into a newer, streamlined one. The new main page will have a list of members, number of articles, established date, and some more features including a "featured nation" section where members select a complete, well-written article about a nation in the AIN and a short paragraph and its flag are on the main page. Another feature is the Did You Know? section, which will be expanded and also be next to a Headlines/news section. A featured media section would also be there along with the directions to creating an article.

The style I am thinking of is very similar to the Sounders Wiki I created in April 2009 and remodeled last month. Some sections, like content, schedule and results, will be replaced when the time comes.

I'll make a template and send it off to an admin to put on the main page. Any questions or comments?

Currently, any wiki hosted by Wikia cannot be hosted off-site. Sorry!

I love the idea! I agree, we need a better, vibrant and more professional looking page!

To make it easier, maybe you should give me temporary admin privileges on the Wiki for the main page redesign and also I have another suggestion:

The left sidebar under the logo is a little bland and cluttered....I'll include a list of member nations (Full and Jr separated) and some other links.

great idea! As for incorporating into the domain - that would have to be done by wikia - which is apprently not possible at the moment. I could however look into doing a framed redirect or something of the sort - do you mean like aoin.eu/wiki/pagename?

I believe you can change the main page without admin

A redirect is a good idea! If we wanted to get our own wiki on aoin.eu/wiki, we would have to download MediaWiki, host it, copy and paste all the articles and templates and images and then start over. Too much work.

Peter, to make someone an admin on the wiki, you first have to go to the User Rights panel (only Admins can access it). Then, you enter my name (ComputerGuy890100) in the box and mark "administrator" under the "Groups you can change" line. Then click "Save user groups". Use the same steps to un-admin a person.

Fourthwall: Yes, you can edit the main page as a regular member, but you need to be an admin to edit the sidebar.

btw i would go for aoin offcially since thats what both domains say

But judging by these forums and off-site references to the union, the O shouldn't be there. I'd go with AIN.

And I've changed the settings so that you have to be an admin to change the main page. This is so that some random guy doesnt just put whatever into the main page

CG, is it possible to fix the AIN wiki main page by adding this page to the "Lanaya [not created page that is avalaible on the Main Page] page"?

I fixed it...link was wrong.

I recommend moving that article. If you look at Wikipedia articles of RL nations, they almost always are the short form of the nation name, not the long form. An article simply titled "Lanaya" would be consistent with this principle.
