History

In 1846, James Young II of Cornwall landed on the north side of a rocky island which he named stone. Initially the stone settlement was poor in quality but as time went on, conditions improved, even to where the british soldiers were about to move their Pacific base to stone, but they didn't without a fight, and fight they did, the stoneish people were armed and ready, they told the british as soon as they got the news, there was no way stone was to become the brit's play thing. And finally at the dawn of 6th August 1863 the Stoneish saw the brit's ships on the horizon and as soon as they got within range, from behind the logs and trees along the beaches of stone, they fired. First it should be said that The republic of Stone is on multiple islands and the main one including the one stone city is on is actually Edward's Island, Stone Island is located south of Edward's Island, back on topic. The stones came out with guns blazing but it was not enough and the brits overpowered them. Taking stone, establishing a base in the south and keeping the stones prisinor in the north. A small uprising took place in 1873 in which a stonish man, Calvin Thomas, broke into the British Base on the southside during the night and as the troops came to the armory to take up their arms shot at them at dawn. Two guardsmen subdued him before long and for the next five years he was tortured before being executed by the british in 1880 after two years in prison. This led to the Stonish becoming extremely angry and as such, attacked. The ensuing revoluton lasted seven years and eventually led to the stoneish defeating the british due to mastery of the terrain and achieving independence. The stoneish population eventually extended beyond Stone Island, to Edward Island, Kings Island and Pacific Island before eventually nearly abandoning Stone Island except a small population, still on the north side.

World War II broke out in 1942 in Stone when the Japanese Kamikaze pilots crashed into downtown Stone City, destryoing the tallest buildings and destroying the buildings of Federal Isle. Then Prime Minister Red Ryder was in Adamsbridge at his retreat east of Clarksville (see update 2) and was unharmed. Congress was not in session and, while 5 congressmen were in downtown at the time, most were at their homes or in Berryford (see update 4 tonight) and the courts were not in session for the day so the majority of the government was still fine. Congress took session under the emergency clause of the constitution in the Bunker (undisclosed location South of Berryford).

Emegency Clause states: Under an executive deemed National Emergency, a special congress will meet at at a national bunker location. This congress shall operated with supreme power over the nation and consist of the 4 most experienced congressional officials, the Prime Minister, Governor, Chief of the courts and Commander of the Stoneish Armed Forces
?

The Emergency Congress called on the armed forces and counter attacked Japan and such fighting ensued until the Americans stepped in and backed the Japanese away in 1944. On November 12th, 1944, Japan signed a peace treaty with the Prime Minister of the Stone Republic to officially end the fighting.

During the cold war, Stone saw much spying between the soviets and americans and was somehow able to avoid the conflict completely and maintain a position of neutrality and as we have reached the new millinium, Stone has developed a wonderful telecommunications industry as well as an automotive industry worth noting. Major General Matthew Whitehead was elected to his first term as Prime Minister in 1997 and was elected to his third term (6 years) in 2009.

From City Stadium, go South on Central Street (Main N/S Road) to Waterford Road, turn right on Waterford Road (East/West), West, pass over Highway 91 (Ring Road around the Northern Island) continue straight for 2.7 miles. Now choose either A or B.

A. To goto HCIA, exit North onto Highway 43 (Kind of a bypass), continue North until you reach the HCIA interchange. Exit south to Highway 43 South/HCIA. Its an interesting Intersection. Exit at your first right to HCIA.

B. To goto Harbor City Dragway continue West on Waterford Road, this will take you to the dragway site, if it is closed for racing action you will not be able to enter the site or continue on Waterford Road.

One of the smaller yet very prominent counties is Pacfic Cove, along the Pacific Coast, it houses a perinnial Stoneish Premier League squad, St. Vincent's Angels who play at St. Vincent's High School in the town of St. Vincents.

Well hi Will, thought you were gonna make your own CJN, but anyway your application looks nice, but needs some work, I suggest not repeating so much in residentials, also clean cities up (theres garbage every where) try to get a garbage removal mod.

Over all I suggest a little bit more Custom Content and look for those dependencies (I see missing textures), I also suggest to make areas for shopping centers since they usually are located in one area, and the residentials nearby but not next to.

Hello will.

First of all, you gotta get out of the AUS. But you already know that.

Secondly, you need a lot more custom content. I see a lot of Simtropolis stuff, which is okay, but SC4devotion is better, and all those Japanese sites are the best. Also, your cities are relatively smaller, and your airports (I saw two of them) are gigantic, so maybe you should downsize. An example is Duwamish, it has a very small airport even though the country has a high reputation in the AIN, but the country only has a population of 6 or 7 million (I think, Bruce, tell me I'm wrong Smile. After all, your biggest city is only 120,000 people.

I think a good inspiration to you, and I don't mean to say I am better than you, is my own journal Cheeky/Razz the Cultan Republic. The airport is a reasonable size, the cities are small but have everything you need (not too many skyscrapers, there are a few, but not many).

Also, speaking of airports, those runways are WAY too short. (with the exception of the longest one in the first picture, that is decent).

Post by will 17th September 2010, 00:22

ok, understandable, I plan on getting some more small british, austrailian and american homes, probably a few of Spa's new houses and things. I am planning on replacing all my Commercial and some Res with custom content, no maxis mod. I'll look for the textures or just LE the things and replace the textures. Probably should seperate those Shopping Centers a little bit, need to redo that one pic though with the fire truck icons, must've missed that, those should've been off to the side.

K50: That's taken care of, decided against that anyway.

oh, darn :\ well most of it is on sc4dev and I remember it so It should be pretty easy to do. I'll get round to fixing that soon. I was originally going to apply a month ago but I thought i'd read that City Building workshop and that made me redo stone City and expand alot, hacked the region. Originally Stone City didn't have any Highways albiet, it did have a very large Airport, Which had a nice long runway. Heard it reminded some people of Maderia.

not quite,Cheeky/Razz I copied the may from the Map and just zoomed it in alot, Its actually quite a bit from Liseux... Did I zoom in too much? Its only maybe 50km across and its within 250 miles of British Colombia. I'd say a good 1500 miles between my SW and your Far East. Smile Cheeky/Razz

Edit: just so we're clear, thats Alaska, not russia in the far upper left corner Smile

Hi Will, and thank you for applying to join the AIN. Smile

Having read your CJ before, on Simtropolis, I know that a lot of this is a vast improvement on some of your previous work with the Stone Republic, and it's very good to see that you're planning to get more custom content from the LEX.

However, I would actually recommend you move your country a long way away from the Pacific Northwest, simply because there are already 4+ nations in that region and I personally don't think there should be any more crammed in there. I know it's an easy region to build, but maybe if you moved it up into Canada (where British influence is more prominent) or if you really want to go for a British/Australian style, move to the south-west coast of England or west coast of Ireland.
I think it would really help your CJ stand out, and help you get the highest number of "yes" votes possible.

OK, I'm going to follow your advice thomas, How's this for a new Stone, AIN wise? The demensions may change but general location
Stone Republic Application Stone_10

Plus I have a few questions...

Could I be redirected to some britishy things? I have some stuff from ST including some of rp2005's stuff, I would expect some of Ill Tonkso's stuff.

How small should my country be? I never really get my cities too large, more of incompetence to do so than anything else, 2 computers ago when was still rather new to SC4 I would up with a 300,000 person city and after that the original Stone City was #2 (at its max 120,000) then Davis Park. Any recommendations? Or rather whats the smallest ya'll would accept?

New Chandler is a tough country to do though, getting the cultures right is very difficult. I do wish you luck if you make an attempt at it! 👍

No, even with Maxis and all that, I have never, in about 30 months of playing SC4 (May 2008) and 25 with CC (August 08), I got the first Stone City to 120,000 a few times and it crashed and got one upto 300,000 once but never did much with it.

K50: I meant go from PNW to Atlantic Europe, like NC is going from CenAm. to the Indian Ocean Cheeky/Razz LOL And may I ask how big you typically make your cities? In tiles? or pixels in the config.bmp.

I think i'll move it up dead even with Ireland though (Gotta love that Green Cheeky/Razz Smile )

Julien, sorry but no thank you, I have rather messy plugins and I don't have too much time on my hands either really to fix that and find the olympic terrain mod to change it...

Well my cities are all usually 1x1 large tiles, except for the big ones, which can be much more spread out (although the CBD is only a part of one of those tiles).

New Chandler 2.0's region is giant though: 8x8 large tiles. The first version was 6x5 Smile

OK, thats a bit smaller than new stone but it included the original stone and the new island was all large, so it could fit 8*8 (64) but was only actually 51 Large and a lot of small and medium. Ok, that's probably going to be agoue what the new one will be too.

another good area to place it is in the nook below Ireland and directly left of England, and have the chain moving southwest (left and down).

This would keep it in line with geographic features and would also solve the problem of size.

Having had a British-influenced nation myself in the past, I can definitely help you out with custom content. I'm available on Skype most of the time (although I live in the UK, so I'm not sure how timezones will affect things) and I still have a lot of my British lots and mods in storage, which means I can help you with links and things. Smile
The main ones I would recommend are Illtonkso, rp2005, gascooker, Spa's Garrison Woods and some of the Australian homes are also very useful replicas. Also, some Danish and German homes would also work, because they aren't too strange architecturally for the NW Europe area.

Stone Republic Application Stonerep-map

For your location, I would recommend considering these three. The top one would be a population of about 70,000 - 120,000 and would be a single city with some suburbs. It would most likely be a small Kingdom or principality, and would be a tax haven or something like that. Mainly midrise and lowrise.

The midsized one just off the south-east coast of Cork would be about 130,000, and would consist of three or four small towns and lots with lots of rural hamlets and villages dotted around. This one would be a lot more sparsely populated, and would be more of a fishing and farming island with offshore banking and things for British and Irish corporations.

The largest one would be the most unrealistic of the three, in terms of size and location. However if you want to build some large, sprawling cities then this is the one to use. It would have a population of about 3 million, with large commercial office cities and sprawling suburbs. It would need a very detailed history though, due to its location in the middle of the Irish-Spanish trading area of the Atlantic.

Personally I would love to see the first and second ones, because you could easily make them quite original within the AIN and still have lots of building and detail to add to the areas. The best CJ to base any of these on is probably Paranor Island.

I think I like the second one, I'd say probably 1,000 sq kms? That should work, Stone is only about 1/3 done and I agree, could be very original. I agree on Paranor Island, I used to follow it till the Leah Simlympics, after which I was gone alot from the SC4 community. I don't have skype but I'm avalible on ST alot, 5 hour's difference, I could do it as late as about 10 my time but thats way too late for you (3 am?) but probably can't do anything till about UK 2-3 PM. Sorry i can be a tad difficult. I followed what little of Holidia was on ST but wondered what happened to it. I know it went AIN.

Liberator: hmmm, no thank you, I don't wanna steal the Manx mojo, after all, must be pretty tough to be named the Isle of Man LOL jk Cheeky/Razz
