Yorke and Brooklyn Airports Close
Following the demise of Yorke Bay Airways, Yorke Airport has closed. The airport was the oldest continually operating airport in Arcacia, opened in 1931. The airport will be demolished in order to make room for venues to be used if Providence is successful in its bid to bring the Simlympics to Arcacia.
Brooklyn Airport has also closed after the 4th in a series of near misses between light aircraft and commercial jets. Arcacian Airlines claimed that the airport, which was only used for general aviation, was a hazard as its approach/departure path took it straight over the top of Providence International. Brooklyn Airport was also opened in 1931. The space will be used for a waterfront development.
All general aviation has been moved to Providence International Airport, which has a GA capacity 3 time that of the two closed airports combined.

This is a sad day for small, local airfields in Arcacia.

Re: Yorke and Brooklyn Airports Close
Arcacia used to have several small airstrips. There was one on every island and in each major city. However, as Arcacian Airlines - for whom the airstrips were constricted in the 1930s - expanded, most became derelict. Yorke was the only on that was expanded to suit larger aircraft.
With the construction of the new Providence International, the old international airports in Providence and Redding were closed. Yorke still clung to life, but there were very few aircraft using it. Yorke Bay Airways was in dire straights with some flights only carrying 3 or 4 passengers. There was not a great deal of GA at the airport as the landing and parking fees were skyrocketing to cover the cost of maintenance.
The decision to close Brooklyn was mainly due to safety, with frequent cases of small aircraft encroaching the Providence CTAF. The aerodrome was actually inside the CTAF, but there was confusion among pilots as to which frequency they were supposed to be on. This led to Providence ATC sometimes having no contact with light planes overflying Providence International.
Arcacia's size means that Providence International is adequate to serve both commercial and GA needs for the entire country (with the exception of Saint Vincent, of course).
However, an application has been made by Yorke Bay Aero Club for a small, grass airstrip for ultralights in Newhaven.
