Re: Day Two
PAS points work like tickets in a draw. The more PAS points you have in a particular event, the better your chances.
Each country with PAS points in an event is assigned a group of numbers depending on how many points they have. For example, a country with 10 points may get the numbers 1-10 etc. A random sequence generator is then used. The numbers that come up in first second and third spot equate to gold silver and bronze.
Lets say, for instance, that there are 3 teams in an event. Team 1 would have numbers 1-10, team 2 would have 11-20 and team 3 would have 21-30. Using a random sequence generator, the numbers that come up are:
21, 22, 5, 4, 10, 19, 13, 7, 3, 23 etc.
In this case, team 3 has won gold and silver, team 1 has won bronze. That is, if the even is one where one team can win more than one placing, such as in individual events, like swimming. If it were a team event, where a team can only win one place, team 3 would take gold, team 1 would get silver and team 2 would get bronze.
It should be noted that just having a large number of PAS points in an event is no guarantee of winning, or even placing. It just increases your chances of doing so. It is possible to win gold with only 1 point in an event, though it is unlikely.
