Queensland under water - Brisbane under threat
The flood crisis in Australia is extreme with 10 confirmed dead, more than 70 missing with grave fears held for 18, and the Queensland state capital, Brisbane, a city of 2 million, now threatened. The Brisbane River is bursting its banks in the CBD and Brisbane is being evacuated as they face the worst floods in 118 years.
Brisbane is Australia's 3rd largest city and hosted the 1982 Commonwealth Games and the 1988 World Expo. It is most likely the next Australian city to bid for the Olympic Games, possibly for 2020. Now, it faces a major disaster with the dams at capacity and the water level rising faster than anyone predicted.
The last time Brisbane flooded was 1974 and this flood is expected to be far worse. Worse even than the 1893 floods. Brisbane itself is expected to be inundated by Thursday.
Toowoomba, Grantham, Sunshine Coast and other communities are completely submerged. The flood crisis is slowly migrating South, threatening the Northern Rivers and North Cost of New South Wales, with flooding possible right down the East Coast as far as Tasmania and as far West as South Australia. It is possible that 5 states may be flood affected within the next week.

It is totally shocking and disheartening to see so much of our country affected and so many of our countryman in such dire straights... My heart goes out to all Australians be they Queenslanders, New South welshman or other.. Mother nature sure like to play tricks on us.. After 10 years of Drought to get this now.. it makes you wonder is there really someone up there that could allow this to happen?

Re: Queensland under water - Brisbane under threat
I really find it shocking, it just keeps on getting worse for Queensland. I'm surprised it's not a bigger story on international news networks - sure it's a headline story but they aren't making as big a deal out of it as they should be.
I hope that the situation for Queensland improves, and I'm sure everyone sends their prayers to those affected.
No offence to you guys who have posted pictures of your floods, but they don't really compare to what's happening in Australia atm. Queensland has been suffering torrential rain and flooding for several weeks now and dozens of towns - and now a state capital - have flooded. Hundreds of thousands have been affected, I believe. It really is, shocking.

I very hope it... This just as worse as Indonesia when the Flood (Jakarta and Wasior, well the jakarta isnt so bad but its very annoying for most people here because of the traffic is stuck no moving over 12 hours), Earthquake and Tsunami (West Sumatra) and volcanic eruption in Yogyakarta, Central Java. It almost created death toll 1000 people . Thats all very .... :affraid: :affraid: worse...link to my post
Plus I have some picture from Brisbane a few years ago.
So I know how things going in there. I'll help as I can . I just see it be the main topics for foreign news in the night news.

Re: Queensland under water - Brisbane under threat
Update:
Brisbane city centre shut down, power cut off.
10 dead, 90 missing.
Ipswich flooded, thousands affected.
Water rising in Bundaberg and Maryborough (where my brother lives)
Several towns being evacuated for second time.
4,500 isolated in northern New South Wales as flooding moves south.
What needs to be understood is that the flood that hit the Lockyer Valley is being described as an "inland tsunami." It wasn't just rising water, it was a wall of water that swept through, taking everything with it.

Woah, that's terrible, I've been watching the Queensland flood on the News here, I actually still remember what happened to my home country, yes I actually immigrated to NZ. Huge flood in the capital.
Lahat from Maynila City, Metro Manila, Pilipinas. 2010 | Typhoon Ondoy/Megi
I previously lived in Manila till I moved here in NZ...

I heard about that boy that told rescuers to save his little brother first, and then he and his mother were swept away to their demise. My heart broke for Australia. My prayers are with the Aussies in their time of need and despair.

Oww no :pale: ... Its going worser... :affraid:
For 2006, there is a medium scale tsunami in South Java :pale: : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_South_of_Java_Island_tsunami That hit in South Java. :pale: :pale:
It should be 2004, the worst disaster ever happen. :affraid: :affraid: More than 250.000 people dies. :affraid: :affraid:Aranho wrote:2006 tsunami? Shouldn't it be 2004?

Actually the worst ever natural disaster was the 1931 China floods.

I think New Orleans with Katrina worst than Brisbane. Don't get me wrong, I know what's happening in Brisbane and all and it's sad.
