Saint Vincent 2011 - Go the Distance
Official Bid for the IV Alliance Winter Games
Welcome to Saint Vincent
Arcacia's Southern Ocean Territory
Located roughly half way between Tasmania and Antarctica, Saint Vincent offers a unique location and an ideal host for the Alliance Winter Games. The sub-Antarctic climate sees Saint Vincent enjoy a narrow temperature range year round, rarely falling below -4ºC or climbing above 4ºC. This means that the outdoor ice rinks remain frozen and the snow never melts.
Despite the games being held in March, Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere, Saint Vincent's perpetual Winter means that Autumn is precisely the best time to visit this wonderland of the South Seas as night and day are roughly of equal length, allowing athletes and visitors to adjust easily to life on the island.
Saint Vincent township, the territory's capital, is home to about two thirds of the island's 80,000 people. Hugging a beautiful nautural cove, the town is home to fine restaurants, hotels and boutique shopping. It is an ideal hub for visitors to Saint Vincent.

One of the oldest surviving structures on the island is the lighthouse built in 1902. It is still in operation today and the keeper's house, which now serves at a visitor's centre and tourist information beureau, once served as the territory's legislative building.

Saint Vincent is the gateway to Antarctica. Saint Vincent's own airline, SouthAir, flies to Willis Runway near Casey Station once a week in the summer and Saint Vincent is also the home of the Southern Lights cruise - a 14 day cruise of the Southern Ocean and Antarctic Coast.

Of course, you don't need to go far to enjoy the spectacle of the Southern Ocean. Whale watching is a popular activity, with the waters surrounding Saint Vincent designated a protected marine habitat. Dolphins, too, frequent the waters around Saint Vincent and the island is home to a substantial colony of little blue penguins that are the territory's official bird.

Of course, there's plenty to do on the island as well. Skiing, snowboarding, hiking and ice skating are just some of the activities the snow affords visitors. Fine dining and sampling local wine are also popular. The spectacle doesn't end with the enchanting sunset, either. After dark, visitors are witness to one of nature's most breathtaking sights - the Aurora Australis, or Southern Lights. Saint Vincent is one of the world's best places to view this year-round light show.

Ceremonies, Medals and Mascot
Cermonies, Medals and Mascot
Opening and Closing Ceremonies
Remember Providence? The opening and closing ceremonies will be downloadable MP3 files which you can either listen to in sync with your timezone, or any time at your leisure. Saint Vincent promises the same degree of professionalism as was shown in Providence.
Medals
It is the prize that all athletes seek. Years, sometimes a lifetime of training and toil builds to a single moment of glory that defines their career and cements their place in the annals of sporting history. It is with that in mind that Saint Vincent offers the athletes of the Alliance nothing short of the very best in medal design and quality.
Mascot
Every Alliance Games needs one and Saint Vincent will be no different in that regard. It should be of little surprise that the territory's official bird will take pride of place at these games. Meet Vinnie, the little blue penguin:

Getting Around
Saint Vincent has its own rail loop operated by the Arcacian National Railway, serving all towns on the island. MetroCorp also operates a light rail network in Saint Vincent Township and buses throughout the island. Most venues are within easy walking distance of a railway or light rail station. Where there is a gap, shuttle buses operated by MetroCorp will be in operation. Like public transport everywhere in Arcacia, Saint Vincent's transport networks operate 24 hours a day and are completely free of charge.

Thanks, all.
Just to let you know I've updated it. I forgot the section containing the Athlete's Village and Media Centre. I've now tagged that onto the Venues section.
