History
The Parliamentary Republic of Roumeli (formerly Roanoke Island) was founded in 2009 after a group of Greecian pilgrims set sail for the uninhabited island. They were hungry for a land of their own that they could run and control, and over a period of about a year, more and more citizens from around the Mediterranean have flocked to this small, once-remote island.
In late 2009, then Roanoke Island joined the Alliance of Independent Nations. They remained a member for over a year, before they abruptly left for the Confederacy of Free Regions, changing their name to Roumeli Island in the process.
Civil disruptions started to break out in late November and early December in the small island nation. There was a newly elected government official, Stefen Agostopolous, who wanted to change the way the island operated. He wanted it to turn into a big, booming business island. He ordered all citizens to abolish their traditions and adapt this new way of living. The citizens were scared that they would have to abandon traditional customs, and be a part of the industrialization of Roumeli.
For the first part of December, 90% of the citizens in Roumeli boycotted working at the new manufacturing plants around Roumeli. The rebellion was just starting. For the next week, rebels attacked the then-capital-city of Newport, finally taking it over and burning it to the ground on December 14, 2010. Head-of-state Stefen Agostopolous was exiled on the small Greecian island of Crete on December 15, 2010, and he remains there today. The new head-of-state, Nicholas Stavrohakos, was one of the main leaders of the rebellion, and was chosen by his comrades to be the next head-of-state. On December 17, 2010, Roumeli left the Confederacy of Free Regions, changing their name to the Parliamentary Republic of Roumeli. They are currently rebuilding their nation to look more Mediterranean-styled. As of now, the styles are all over the place. Later that day on December 17, 2010, the Parliamentary Republic of Roumeli applied one again to the Alliance of Independent Nations, hoping to get the old ideals back in their nation, and have life the way it used to be.
History is still being written for Roumeli. As of December 19, 2010 the Parliamentary Republic of Roumeli Island was accepted once again into the Alliance of Independent Nations with a 13-0 vote. 12 of those votes were toward Roumeli Island being accepted into a Member Nation.

I'm loving the new flag and COA. Crete is owned by Hiigara now, by the way.
I can't wait to begin relations with Roumeli.

Update 1 - Thermopylae
Dawn is breaking on a small town in the Thermopylae district; the capital of Roumeli. On many mornings, fog blankets the small farming settlement; along with light rain showers. This Sunday morning was no exception.
[Only admins are allowed to see this image]
But, the soggy weather is always defeated by the sun later in the morning. It always seems that on Sunday morning, the sound of Thermopylaens singing at the local Greek Orthodox Church burns away the fog.

The next morning is the beginning of the work week...and young Thermopylaens have a day at school ahead of them.

While the young Thermopylaens are at school, the elders and government officials can be found at one of the Parliament House in the town.
[Only admins are allowed to see this image]Thos
Those who are not government officials are most likely farmers in the lower class. President Nichloas Stavrakos is a farmer at heart, and even though his policies seem benevolent at times, his taxes on farmers are brutal. The lower class families are stuck in a chain of poverty that is almost impossivle to break. (The quote in this pic is from Frederick the Great).
