2011 England riots
Riots in London and around the country over the last four days have seen widespread looting and buildings set alight. Moved to General Discussions.
And can I just confirm I have not been away because I was rioting. I was on holiday again.
There's been no trouble anywhere near where I live, it's mainly confined to the poorer urban areas and cities.
The problem is, unlike other countries, we don't use water cannons or rubber bullets or anything like that - so when there is this large-scale trouble, we don't have the ability to control them in any way. It's calmed down now in London though, although it has spread to our second and third largest cities, Birmingham and Manchester.
I don't think it can be compared to any other country's riots, because we haven't used much force at all, so the reason it has gone out of control is that the Metropolitan Police can't just shoot at them or hose them down. We like to talk it out peacefully over a cup of tea.
