MURDER Summer15

Officer Journal- Det. Heinrich Kasczinski

8-4-10

I've never really seen a dead guy up close. Not since the War. Not like this. Back in the forests of Saxony I was just a grunt. Now it's up close and personal. As a detective for Hekli PD, you mainly get calls for investigating missing animals, long gone graffiti taggers, and stolen car stereos.

Today, however, we get a real treat. In our modest city, alleys are shorcuts to school and nightclubs; in this instance, it's the scene of a corpse. It's 1:32am, and some clubgoer, drunk off his rocker, tripped over the leg and cut his face up. Some Metro cops on patrol found him, thinking HE was the dead one. They sent the drunk on his way and called me at home.

"Hallo Heinrich! Wir haben ein totes Mann nach ein strasse fur dich."

"English, bitte. Sharonn, where is it? Didn't you know I was sleeping?"

"Bitte. I guess it is common knowledge that you were sleeping, but duty calls, detective."

"Okay, let me wake myself up. I have to get my Sig from the department. Is Altman there with the brew?"

"Yes, detective, Columbian roast. See you in 10 minutes."

MURDER Hekli-10

I drove my Alfa-Romeo to the Lower 2nd Precinct, where my service pistol is locked up and undercover patrol car is parked. After a quick chat with the gun locker clerk, I drove up to the crime scene, which is nestled in the southwest business district. A small crowd and flashing blue lights greeted me at the entrance to the alley.

MURDER Hekli-10

"What do we have here, Altman?"

"Not too much here, Kasczinski. John Doe with some slash marks on his upper abdomen."

"You didn't wait for me to get here before you cut his shirt? That's my favorite part."

"Charming. Sarcasm isn't much appreciated at 2 in the morning. And we found him shirtless."

"Must have dumped it at the club. Or along the way. Alcohol does weird things to a person."

"Right. Before we make any asumptions, let's get this site bagged, and then send him to the M.E. It's probably just a simple binge-drinking junky that fell and cracked his head."

A preview of next week's update:
As we were heading to the Medical Examiner's van, Officer Yrvam hailed the lot of us over to a nearbye park.

"HEY! Everyone not working on the body get over here!"

Interesting, I haven't seen this style before. Will we have images, or is it a script-only story?

As we were heading to the Medical Examiner's van, Officer Yrvam hailed the lot of us over to a nearbye parking lot.

"HEY! Everyone not working on the body get over here!"

We all booked it, hands on our weapons, ready for anything. As we neared the distraught rookie, I immidiately took in the scene:

Sprawled out on the white concrete of the El-Rail parking lots, sitting in an eerie lake of red fluid, were three bodies. One bore an attache, and a Goma designer trench coat, while the other two bore items of greater "caliber;" each had in their hand high-powered automatic submachine guns.

MURDER Hekli-11

"Okay, well what do you we have here?"

"Uh, well I'm a little new at this, but it looks like two hitmen got killed by trench coat-guy on their way to kidnap him."

"You kidding me? These guys have matching coats, same guns. And a kidnapping? This isn't your American cop television. These guys are most likely security for 'trench coat guy.' Who happens to...oh God...that's Leonaard Hume."

Leonaard Hume is- errr was- a local socialist politician. Much loved by the people of Hekli, Hume was intent on socializing several banks in Hekli, as well as equalizing taxes and opening government-created jobs in independent companies, which caused some controversy in the capitalist community. So it's safe to say he had some friends, but probably more enemies.

"Alright. Call the KLG offices. Be prepared for some Rottsprache crap-" I'm a bit of a capitalist fanatic "-and let's get some ID's off these bodyguards."

After ID'ing the security, I strapped on a pair of latex gloves, and dug for the navy leather-clad attache. With the help of Altmann, I wiped off the blood and flicked open the locks. Upon openning, papers and Ainero bills spilled out in the early morning breeze. It was clear the politician had his dark side, but that wasn't our duty to investigate.

I got a solid ID on Hume, and shared the info on his bodyguards.

"Alright. This is definitely Hume. Repeat, positive identification of Leonaard Hume. I also got an ID on one of his guards. Guy on the right is named Johan Gorbach."

"Guy on the left is Francisco Gunoz"

We tagged 'em and bagged 'em, and headed back to the station. Now, it was already 6:45am, and I was supposed to be at the office, getting the rundown on the northern Precinct's findings of the graveyard shift, but I was allowed to go home to shower, with a tired look in my eyes and a "gut arbeit" from Captain Stein.

Preview of next week's update:
I drove back to the Admon Brownstown in Kaelville, where I live. Still dark, I parked my Italian coupe in the underground garage and headed up to my 6th floor penthouse. I started up the shower, and, overcome with drowsyness, flopped on the bed and slept. Around 10:30, I got a wake up call from Alterman, my partner, telling me to either get to the precinct in 10 minutes or file for unemployment.

MURDER Kaelvi10
I drove back to the Admon Brownstown in Kaelville, where I live. Still dark, I parked my Italian coupe in the underground garage and headed up to my 6th floor penthouse. I started up the shower, and, overcome with drowsyness, flopped on the bed and slept. Around 10:30, I got a wake up call from Alterman, my partner, telling me to either get to the precinct in 10 minutes or file for unemployment.

I quickly jumped into the shower, got dressed, then sped over to the precinct in Hekli. I was greeted not by a furious captain, but a gathering of the staff, ceremonially lining the hallway to the commons area. There, I shook hands with Captain Stein, and met was congradulated for my recent work by the Comissioner.

"You've served your precinct well, Kasczinski. The Lower 2nd is proud to have a dedicated officer such as yourself on investigations. I now present to you the Urban Inspection Award, and with great pleasure, offer you the promotion to Chief Inspector. Congratulations, Heinrich." The Comissioner's short speech hit me like a prizefighter hits a dazed opponent. A rolling applause followed.

Chief Inspector! I felt a sudden rush of adrenaline, and after a flurry of handshakes, hugs, pictures, and salutations, I found myself back at my desk. In front of me sat a report from the medical examiner and crime scene analyzer from last night's activities.

"M.E. Dorian Fabronelli
Inspector Kasczinski-Lead detective

Report: 07:00, 8-4-10

Primary Victim: Thadius Blakely, English national. Stab marks on upper abdomen. Cuts about 18 cm deep. Found unknown fibers in fingernails, running additional tests. Possibly contains Polyester. Found on ground shirtless; several bruises and cuts from ground contact. Cranial damage received. Blood Alcohol Content: 3.5% INTOXICATED

Cause of Death: Blood Loss
------------------------------------------
C.S.A. Angelina Thuring
Inspector Kasczinski-Lead detective

Report: 07:21, 8-4-10

Analysis: Urban alleyway. Midnight, low lighting. Body found shirtless on back, lying on trash and recepticles. Blood dripped on cement ground, cuts and head trauma. Chance of witnesses: 2%. Proported weapon report: None."

---------
All that for the shirtless guy in the alley. But the main concern was the politician who was killed down the alleyway, who was probably killed by the same person.
--------

"M.E. Dorian Fabronell
Inspector Kasczinski-Lead detective

Report: 07:30, 8-4-10

Primary Victim: Leonaard Hume. Local (Hekli) politician. (Hekli Council, KLG) Gunshot wounds on abdomen, left leg. Estimated blood loss: 3 L. Found face-up on ground; fractures on impact. Ground contact pre-mortum. Projectiles removed: 5 abdomen, 2 leg. Bullet caliber: 9mm Parabellum.

Cause of Death: Blood loss (gunshot, upper left abdomen)

Secondary Victim 1: Johan Gorbach. German-Tirnlander. Security detail for L. Hume. Gunshot wounds on abdomen, head, right foot. Estimated blood loss: Undefined. Found chest-up on ground. Killed on receiving gunshot wound on face. Ground contact post-mortum. Projectiles removed: 4 abdomen, 1 head, 1 right foot. Bullet caliber: 9mm Parabellum.

Cause of Death: Fatal impact (gunshot, face)

Secondary Victim 2: Francisco Gunoz. Portuguese-American. Security detail for L. Hume. Gunshot wounds on abdomen. Estimated blood loss: 2 L. Found face down on ground. Received extreme cranial damage on contact of ground. Ground contact in-mortum. Projectiles removed: 2 abdomen. (center gut, left breast) Bullet caliber: .45.

Cause of Death: Cranial hemorraging (ground contact)
------------------------------------------
C.S.A. Angelina Thuring
Inspector Kasczinski-Lead detective

Report: 07:40, 8-4-10

Analysis: Urban streetside parking. Midnight, low lighting. Bodies found fully clothed, in varying positions, lying on white concrete. Blood puddle on concrete ground, attache and weapons in physical custody of respected bodies. Bullet shell casings found: 15. Matches: None Chance of witnesses: 19%. Proported weapon report: Unsilenced firearms."

Interesting. We are looking for two different weapons. Possibly multiple shooters. But seeing as though all documents and money from Hume's briefcase were undisturbed, this may have been a revenge killing, random slaughter, or retaliatory attack. If the politician witnessed the stabbing of Blakely, the perpetrators would have killed him for being a witness.

Preview of Wednesday's update:
Later that day, Altman and I got a call to the local Market Hall to investigate a possible robbery. Sirens blaring, about 15 minutes from the scene, he started getting chatty, on a usually routinely silent ride.

MURDER Hekli-12

Later that day, Altman and I got a call to the local Market Hall to investigate a possible robbery. Sirens blaring, about 15 minutes from the scene, he started getting chatty, on a usually routinely silent ride.

"Hey, on the Hume case. You think it was just a slash and dash? Y'know, to start it all off?"

"Oh. I'm not sure to be honest. I mean the guy was drunker than a pub owner on his day off. Probably provoked the cutter, who shot Hume."

"Think so? What if Blakely was the first witness, then Hume was a witness to that murder?"

"I guess it could happen. Why all the sudden interest?"

"Well, it could possibly have been a drug deal. Like for those 'designer bars' that are popping up here and there. Captain sent out a memo."

Suddenly, the reality of a drug war so underground that the police weren't fully aware, yet so devastating that it would claim the lives of everyone ranging from common clubgoers to politicians, scared the living hell out of me.

"Hm. It could be. Let me sit on the idea for a bit. We should focus on getting to the hall."

The robbery turned out to be a graveyard shift janitor leaving the windows up after his shift, so I got to turn in to the station earlier than expected. Altman had to run an errand for his wife, who was currently in the hospital pregnant.

After finalizing the hours with paper pushing and report-filing, I was happy to get some shut eye at my not-so-luxurious condo. I set the radio to soft rock, broiled up some wurst, and headed off to sleep.

Until Sunday:
8-6-10

It's been two days, and thing have taken quite a turn for the worse. Recently, we've had to cut down on press releases due to possible leaks of important information. So far, the death of Hume has been kept quiet. Threats of deportation, imprisonment, and fines have kept the staff of his office quiet, but the commies have their own agenda; they may leak info in order to gain trust and popularity.

Nevertheless, someone's noticed. The initial media release was small at best. Limited to tabloids and excentric bloggers, the news was picked up from researchers for larger media companies. TNN, the Tirnreich News Network, as well as other independent news agencies were slow to catch on. Some analyst somewhere must have pieced together missed scheduled meeitngs, frequent visits to Hume's home and office from black cars, and crime scene visitor accounts.

Since Thursday, those who heard the news have gathered fellow "reds" and organized several protests in front of Hekli police stations, arguing that Imperial police precincts are lacking in protection of communist politicians and party members in general. At this point, they have no idea what happened; the Imperialist in me thought we should fully show what kind of a politician he really was, but the cop inside me told me that that would be irresponsible.

Needless to say, we have the perfect recipe for riots. And at 10 o'clock at night, we got one.

Usually, I'm not one to visit riot scenes or knowingly get myself in harms way, but this piqued my interest. I pulled up to the patrol commander's car, which was being used by techs and communications troopers for coordinating the containment effort. PC Damson is a personal friend of mine.

MURDER Mtl-riot3-cbc

MURDER Hekli_10

"Hey there, Damson. How's the situation?"

"Oh, Kasczinski! I mean, Chief Inspector; a riot's a riot. Can't really get too much worse than it is. We got riot cops out on the other side of the square, and as you can see, we're nearly surrounded by rioters here. I would suggest you leave soon, for your own safety." -Damson

"Hmm. Good point. I see they have Molotovs." -Alterman

"Yeah. Nasty little bastards. Already got two fires on the square, an explosion on the 4th floor of the East Trading Tower, and another fire in the diner. HFD won't be able to get to those unless we clear these guys out. You going or not?"

"I guess so. Good luck, Damson." -Me

"Yeah thanks, you too. Find out whoever made this happen; I wanna give them a word or two for the trouble this is causing me."

"I thought you liked riots?"

"I do. But this is date night for me and Madelina. Guess Saturday's going to have to work. Whatever, get along now."

"Alright. Wiedersehen".

I headed back to the office. Got some paperwork finished, and got some new plates for my Alfa, a stipend for a secondary firearm, and a new pen. Okay, so I get excited easily. I'm going to have to take a break from detective work for a while, maybe take a vacation to Bangorai'. I here it's nice this time of year.

Tune in Wednesday for:

Damn shrink. Making me write a damn journal about my piece of shit life. Been doing this for who knows how long, and she still makes me do it! Well I guess it "let's me let my feelings out." I sure as hell ain't letting her see it NEXT time. Hmmm...

'Dear Diary...' not happeining. I guess I'll have to make the most out of this. Let's see...

Hah! Oh yes, the "leak." Thanks to our inside man, the death of Mr. Hume spread around like wildfire. Of course the crazies got it first, spewing it out of their filthy mouths before the big inks got a hold of the info. So it took a few extra days, who gives a damn, right?

With the cops out handling riots, and the detectives working on the Hume case, we're pretty much home free, just like Deeks said we would be. But I must admit, sitting in an apartment is pretty frickin' boring for a week.

Whoa! Door slam. Oh, just Heinrich.

MURDER Murder10

"The hell you doing here? I thought you had your own safehouse?"

"This IS my safehouse, dumbass. Deeks only got us two rentals and one apartment. Be lucky it's THAT much; this shit's off the books, and prime real estate. We're really cashing in our big favors."

"Whatever. You get the guns? 'Cuz I'm not rotting away in some damn penthouse all day without some goddamn protection. My crew's out buying panties; tell me you got the pieces."

"Cool your shit, Russkie. I have our damn guns. Two MP5's, five M1911's, and three grenades. Happy?"

"No. But I feel safer."

I cocked back the sliding receiver of the M1911's as I remembered my first time in Republik Stadt. The adrenaline, bullets flying past my body, and the power I wielded. It seemed like so long ago.

"Look, we need to start workin' shit out soon. Where the hell is Deeks?"

"How the f**k should I know? You're the crew chief."

"Don't get smart, a**hole. I didn't chip him or something. Damn prepaid doesn't work unless I'm near a f**king window, and you know how paranoid I am..."

"Really?"

"Just make the goddamn call."

Heinrich Gedaul, my right hand man, is the "spender." He buys the good shit, and only the good shit. Of course, designers always ask for the highest price, even if you only get a couple grams but it makes you fly higher than Mount freaking Everest, Heinrich will get it.

Anyways, he's calling our other parnter, Jakub Dekovic. We call him "Deeks." If Gedaul's my right hand man, then Jakub is my left hand man. He's our man with connections; he's only a punk kid of about 24 years, but he's got more connections than a mob bosses daughter who whores around with every gang from America to Japan. The kid's got talent. Got us some housing and storage off the books, even though we called in some favors, Deeks knew the right people.

Next Update:
"He's on his way over, says he has a tail."

"Dammit! What is it cop? Tali? We got Reds on our backs?"

"He doesn't know; thinks it could be Poles."

I love that the whole story is on Tirnreich, I mean, it makes things very interesting and allows the author to show its CJ not through only images, but with a context for each pic, besides the story line its own, which is very good so far.

I like it, excellent job!
