Kendall, the Royal Capital
Some of these pictures are some months old, but not too much of what they show has changed a great deal. The biggest change I've made (actually, am still making) to Kendall since my previous time spent here is the reconstruction of the zoned areas of the inner city following my installation of a Maxis blocker. So, a lot of the Maxis buildings you'll see in the older pics are no longer there.
Lower Columbia's recent kings have taken it upon themselves to build public housing projects in the kingdom's major cities. This mosaic shows one of those projects, in the northern part of the city center. The different architectural styles reflect the three different kings that contributed to this project - King Michael the Great built the shorter brown towers, King Adam his son built the taller X-shaped towers, and King Zachary (the current ruler) built the blue-white crescent.
Here are the Royal Library and the Mausoleum of the Kings, two of the oldest buildings in Kendall (the government moved into the city in 1730, after a 15-year construction period). Nine of Lower Columbia's 12 kings are buried in the mausoleum; one of those that aren't was exiled for mismanaging the country, one disappeared while abroad, and the last is still alive.
Across one channel of the Columbia River from the royal palace is the National Cemetery, where Lower Columbia's war heroes are buried. The cemetery was founded in 1860, when the Columbia War was nearing its end. Veterans of that war, the Puget Sound War against Illu'a, and the two most recent expansion campaigns are all buried here.
Fitzsimmons Square, to the east of the Kendall CBD, is one of the capital's cultural hotspots. The square is home to the city's convention center, a cathedral, a concert hall and the city's opera house. The Kendall Metro has a subway station here.
The Royal Mall is the centerpiece of the Government Quarter. Every royal ministry has its offices along the long axis of the cross-shaped park, as does the Royal Broadcasting Corporation. The House of Parliament and the royal palace stand at the ends of the park's long axis, while the National Cathedral and the chambers of the Federal High Court anchor its short axis.

Re: Kendall, the Royal Capital
Thanks, guys!
Continuing with our tour, once again, I'd like to say that some things in some of these pictures are out-of-date. This is especially true where you see a lot of repeating Maxis buildings, a great many of which have since been replaced. Anyway...
Here's the National Cathedral, at the north end of the Royal Mall's short axis. The cathedral hosts interdenominational services on Sundays and is open to tourists during the week. It was one of the first major buildings built in Kendall, though it was one of the last to open its doors; it was consecrated in 1732, two years after the government moved to Kendall from Nyhaven. Coronation ceremonies have been held in the cathedral since 1736, when David I, Lower Columbia's second king, succeeded his father, King Edward. (I've changed the buildings surrounding the cathedral since I took this photo.)
The Kendall Cultural Center is one of the premier artistic venues in the city, along with the opera house on Fitzsimmons Square. The left section of the building is a 2200-seat theatre that hosts award-winning plays and musicals. On its right is the Kendall Museum of the Performing Arts, which has exhibits showcasing the history of drama, theater and music across different cultures.
Here you can see Kendall's largest and newest convention center, as well as its main rail station, King David II Station. The convention center has a five-star hotel to give guests the convenience of not having to travel across town to reach their convention. It is also located a stone's throw from the Houses of Parliament and the Kendall CBD.
One of the government ministries with its headquarters on the Royal Mall is the Ministry of Justice. The current building dates from the 1870s, when the MoJ was greatly expanded to combat crime and guard against foreign espionage. Today, the federal government gives more money to this ministry than to any other; consequently, crime rates in Lower Columbia are far lower than they are anywhere else in North America.
Nice simile! I'm glad you like how the capital looks.Aranho wrote:Everything fits together like Tetris.

Very nice!
And I like the way you design your bottom banner. So Da Vinci-like.

Re: Kendall, the Royal Capital
Thanks very much, all of you!
Let's take a brief trip out to the suburbs...
Kendall Municipal Airport serves mainly business executives, politicians and diplomats; passengers go to Nyhaven International Airport, which is only a few miles to the east of Kendall.
Here's the capital's sports center. All of Kendall's professional sports teams play in these venues.
Closer in is Royal University, Kendall. This is the main campus of the nationwide Royal University system, which is the only university to receive a substantial endowment from the royal family.
We'll return to the city center soon...

Re: Kendall, the Royal Capital
Wow I really love Nyhaven's parks and views of the city. Very classic looking.
Re: Kendall, the Royal Capital
Thanks very much, all of you! Aleks, the arena in the top-right of that picture is Koeln Arena, from the STEX. The subway station is the Bahnhofsplatz Subway Station.
We're back in the central part of Kendall now:
This is Federal Circle, the heart of Kendall's nightlife. Several clubs are located on this large roundabout; the most exclusive one, the government-only Whiteflower Club, is in the penthouse of the tallest building.
Just for good measure, here's a look at the circle at night.
Not far away from Federal Circle is De Loup Square, one of Kendall's nicest inner-city neighborhoods. The apartments and rowhouses on the square are some of the most sought-after addresses in town. The square bears the family name of Lower Columbia's first king, whose family contributed some of its wealth toward the construction of the capital in the early 18th century.
