Colbitz
I have decided to make my capital, instead of talking about it. I have decided to hand terraform the city, because the maps I found weren't suited for what I had in mind. I have completed my first step in making Colbitz, the tracks of the Colbitz Rapid Transit system. I will change some of the elevated tracks to ground level or subway tracks later.
Currently, there is no coastline. That will change later, when I terraform the coast. This picture only contains Colbitz Rapid Transit to scale, and some of the roads for Colbitz International Airport.
If you want to suggest names for towns in Colbitz, feel free to.

Re: Colbitz
The layout looks good. The inner loop is very Chicago-esque. The initial road layout for the airport looks promising; I can imagine a large airport sprawling around that rectangle. Looking forward to seeing more, especially more terraforming!

Re: Colbitz
wood: There isn't actually a loop that the lines go through, based on this map, I want to call the center section "The Mixer."
cormier: More came pretty quickly.
-----
I started laying out heavy rail, main roads, and some highway segments.
My attempt at a Diverging Diamond Interchange. I know that it's over 600 pixels tall, but it's for you to see the concept.
And more region views.

Re: Colbitz
I'm not sure on the exact size of the city. I'll figure it out when I get to it.
I'm currently working on Colbitz International Airport. Since I have the terminals finished, I made a skewed image that will turn into a terminal map.
Any suggestions on how I can improve the layout?

In that area to the front of the airport, you could have parks and things, which would appeal to passengers delayed or those just arriving in the country.

Re: Colbitz
The road loop would be a great place for hotels. As for the terminals, maybe you could add a diagonal wing to the north end of the big terminal, pointing northeast. A satellite concourse either there or east of the fractionally-angled concourse could also be good.

Re: Colbitz
I don't agree with you wood, the loop shouldn't be a good place for hotels! It should be the place of Parking! Perhaps you can build your hotels on the south of the airport (I mean the left of the pic!)

Re: Colbitz
Well, from what I see based on the real-life Singapore Changi Airport (as an example), the ring loop connecting the 3 Main Terminals, the control tower and the Budget Terminal, inside it was basically used for roads layout throughout the whole system and linkroads to underground carparks and multi-storey carparks. Also, a new 7-story Crowne Hotel was built on the airport apron space, but within the Terminal limit.
But that was because Singapore have a limited airport area. But it's just an idea in case you plan to built an airport with a limited ring loop.
For your case Daniel (emgmod), the layout is good and somewhat unique. Like what Blakeway say, the ring loop would be best for parking space should you decide not to hav multi-story carparks. But after all, let your imagination run wild.

Re: Colbitz
Since the government is lazy, any terminal expansions will have to be privately funded. As in someone else has to cough up money.
I have taken your suggestions and finished the inside loop.
To the right(east) is normal airport parking and car rentals. To the left is the airport park, convention center, and a hotel under construction. It's walled off to block noise outside of the park.
Terminal A. It is rarely used since Trans Illu'an Airways filed for bankruptcy in 1985. Atrubian Air has agreed to renovate the terminal for their own airline.
Terminal B. Used for domestic flights.
Terminal C. Fly Illu'a operates from this terminal.
The International Terminal(Terminal D). If I ever get A380 lots, they would be parked here.
Finally, Terminal E. Used for commuter planes.

Re: Colbitz
very good!!! I like the Airport! If you need any help with it, these videos.
Also, Aleksania International Airlines would like to invest $65,000,000 in a new terminal for their own use

@Blakeway: Yeah I know. I'm just praising on how he manage to nicely fit everything into the loop based on both of your suggestions.

aleksfacco: The new terminal is currently being built. In fact...
This is an artist rendering of what the new terminal will look like.
But for now, it's a bunch of dirt.
I built part of the Colbitz Embassy Strip.
So far, all these nations signed up for buildings.
And a night view.

Re: Colbitz
The size of each embassy and lot really shouldn't matter. Just don't request huge(skyscrapers) buildings or large parks for your embassy. The size of the rest of the parks are random and are based on the embassy buildings around it.
Does anyone know of a good looking fence that can match the parks? I don't want it to be as imposing as SNM or Peg Security fences. Just something that can show the AIN neutral Zone* isn't a park with embassies. People are still allowed in when they pass through a checkpoint. Entry into individual buildings depends on the country the embassy represents.
*Politically correct term. I don't like saying Embassy Strip for some reason.

Re: Colbitz
And now for some development. I'm going to grow as much of Colbitz as possible. It retains a more organic look that way in my opinion. The main roads will remain as they are the roads that are more planned than the others.
Here, I converted the elevated lines near the future downtown into subway lines. When the Colbitz Rapid Transit system was built, this section was built underground.
The intersection of Central Avenue and Bay Street. The Central Colbitz Freeway (E15) runs along the same route as Bay Street through Downtown.
Some of the embassies I built in the tile to the southwest of this were ploppables with jobs. For that reason, most of Colbitz right now are houses and industrial buildings. The road network was built almost randomly.

Re: Colbitz
Sweet! As for the fences, try the ones from RIMP2. There at the very bottom of the parks menu
