Re: East Zone | R4A | Illu'a
My plan is for at least three five photo updates, and information. Here's the first update.
We start off in the only large city that I have, Daloa. Here is a shot of Downtown, with a glimpse of Daloa Hayes Station at the bottom. Downtown has been growing steadily during recent years, in part to the NDT Light Rail system.
Click this one for full size. This is the Hayes Junction, a mix of ramps connecting the E30, the E130, and city streets. Construction started in 1967, and finished in 1971. During rush hour, the Hayes Junction would be lined up in all directions with car traffic.
There are proposed plans of burying the entire junction underground, with newer, safer interchanges with city streets. Unless backed with overwhelming approval, that's not going to happen anytime soon.
If you don't know what this area is yet, it's where the Daloa municipal government resides. The tall square building is the main municipal building, housing offices. The building one block to the right of it is the historic City Hall, where the Puget sound war ended. The white building to the north of City Hall is the governor's house. Courtrooms are located in the main municipal building.
Daloa University. Commonly referred to as the DU. Founded in 1895, it was made to attempt to improve relations between Lower Columbia and Illu'a. While it may not be the largest university around, it still is a good university to attend.
And to top off this update about Daloa, here's a suburb built around a golf course. I don't think I need to explain the history of a suburb.

Lovely! You might consider getting rid of those one way arrows though...

Re: East Zone | R4A | Illu'a
Blakeway, 976, Peter: Thank you!
Sky Guy: Thanks! I always wanted to get rid of them, but I never had the time to. Plus, I don't use one-way roads much.
In Illu'a, the government plays a balancing act between development and preservation. Highways and rail lines were never built, for fear that they would disrupt he ecosystem.
Coal mining is an important issue in this balance, especially with recent talks about climate change. Coal is one of the main industries in Illu'a, with many corporations each trying to get approval for more mining. Some people say that increased mining would create more jobs during the current recession, while others say that the effects on the wildlife would be irreversible.
A few kilometers away from the nearest town, the North Daloa Mining Company set up a small mine. Plans to expand the mine and add a rail link to the Adraman Corridor are waiting for approval.
Mountaintop removal is illegal in Illu'a. It's just too damaging.

Thank you, both of you.
Transportation
Now before the Expo ends, I will talk about transportation in Illu'a.
Illu'a has two international airports that handle flights from around the world, Colbitz International Airport, and Strathmore-Palmona International Airport. The third, Daloa International Airport, handles flights only from North America.
The main rail link in Illu'a is the Central Corridor, connecting Colbitz, Daloa, and Strathmore. It has the closest thing in Illu'a to High Speed Rail, the Central Corridor Express.
Map of the Central Corridor Express
Most large cities in Illu'a have some kind of commuter rail, light rail, or rapid transit, supported by a bus network. All the systems are of varying quality, from clean, reliable systems, to old lines prone to failure.
Grade separated freeways aren't very common in Illu'a. They are designated with an E before the route number. Many roads connecting cities are intermittent freeways, with some cross roads, and no traffic lights.
And that is probably the last update. Go ahead and start critiquing.
