Providence 2010
Providence. Arcacia's charming capital. Few words can describe her, though many poets have tried. In this, Arcacia's bicentennial year, Providence opens its heart to the Alliance of Independent Nations in a gesture of friendship and the grand tradition of sport. Welcome to Providence - City of Light and Colour!
Fáilte! Huan Ying! Kalos ilthate! 欢迎! Willkommen! Bun venit! 환영! Komostavos! Добро пожаловать! Bienvenidos! Bienvenue! Aloha! Welcome!
Venues
Providence Olympic Park
Located just to the North of the city, the brand new Providence Olympic Park will be the centre of the Games and will come alive during the Games Festival.
Stadium Arcacia - With seating for 80,000 and facilities for athletics and football, the main stadium is located in the heart of the park.
Providence Superdome - A state of the art indoor arena is the venue for basketball and other sports that need a roof.
Providence International Aquatic Centre - Swimming, diving, water polo and synchronised swimming have a glittering, world-class venue.
Southern Cross Stadium - Named for the constellation familiar to those of us who call the Southern Hemisphere home, this arena is ready for the football.
David Collett Stadium - A modern, 20,000 seat stadium is ready for the football.
Providence Tennis Centre - The Alliance's best players have the country's best facilities at their disposal.
Providence Olympic Baseball Stadium - The AIN's baseball teams will be able to hit a home run on the nation's best diamond.
Dixon-Kennedy Stadium - Traditional on the face of it, this high-tech stadium is also ready for the football, as well as archery.
Providence Velodrome - The AIN's best cyclists deserve nothing less than the best.
Providence Hockey Stadium - Arcacia's national sport finds its roots in the version played on grass and the AIN's field hockey teams have a pleasant, sun-kissed stadium.
Athlete's Village
The Games are nothing without the athletes and as they strive for glory, the Alliance's best deserve accommodation that is of the same calibre they are.
Providence's Athlete's Village is located close enough to the park to be convenient, but far enough away to provide a quiet and restful environment, right on the beach, gently lapped by the waves of the Coral Sea.
Central to all athletes is the Clubhouse (rear) which houses a gym, medical centre, cinema and games complex. The Ocean Centre (centre) houses restaurants and a nightclub. The Mall Canal (front) houses shops which are sales tax free for all athletes, officials, their friends and families.
Media and Entertainment
Media Centre - The eyes of the Alliance will be on Providence and the international media have a state of the art facility from which to beam the Games all over the world.
Media Plaza - Those not fortunate enough to get tickets, or those who can't get enough of the action, will be able to watch the Games on the big screen.
Arcacia Pavilion - Medal Ceremonies and live shows, music and comedy will take place on this stage with entry free for all.
Security
The Arcacia Police will ensure that the Games are a safe and secure experience for all involved. A new station and control centre (top left) will serve as the headquarters of the Police during the Games.
Volunteers
Arcacia's friendly locals are the face of Providence and there will be a couple of thousand of them on hand to help with anything from directions to venues, to driving athletes between the venues and village. Headquartered in the Volunteer Centre, they will help ensure the logistics of the Games runs as smoothly as possible.
Transport
Getting to the Games will be an easy experience, which ever way you travel. Olympic Park railway station is only one stop away from Providence.
Connected to the Providence Metro Subway, Olympic Park Metro Station drops you off and picks you up from the heart of Olympic Plaza and connects directly with the city centre via the Capitol Line.
Around Town
The City of Providence, the city of light and colour - Arcacia's charming capital. There's plenty to see and do in this, the jewel in Arcacia's crown.
The city centre is home to some of the best shopping and haute cuisine restaurants the country has to offer.
Downtown - the heart of Providence's thriving nightlife.
Little Taipei - more Asian than Asia, it's open 24/7 and boasts award winning Asian food.
The Waterfront is where you'll find the Coco Centre, Ocean's 27 and Malibu nightclubs, Fisherman's Wharf and The Pier.
Capitol Square - the home of Arcacia's government. Tours of the Presidential Mansion (left), Senate (centre) and High Court (right) are available and provide and interesting glimpse into Arcacia's history.
