History: [A detailed and realistic history of your nation]

After the last Ice Age, Cattala was cut off from the rest of mainland Europe, as it lost its land link with Sicily and mainland Italy. In around 750BC, the Greeks settled a small colony on Cattala’s east coast, and farming became a strong industry in the colony. However after the Romans took over both Sicily and Cattala in around 200BC, the province became part of the Roman Empire, and remained so for 700 years. Christianity amongst the largely rural population of the country grew rapidly, but growth was mainly limited to the south-west and far eastern regions of the country, with the centre a deeply forested area that was uninhabitable. The name Cattala was chosen for the country, because many Roman soldiers believed they were actually in the Spanish region of Catalonia.
After the fall of the Roman Empire, the control of the province changed hands many times until the Byzantine Empire took control of the islands in 535 AD, and remained so until the 10th century. After Sicily fell under Arab control, Cattala was led for the first time under the control of King Roger Celestine, who increased agricultural growth in the country until his death in 1021.
His son, William the First, led the country to a stronger independence from Sicily, which ultimately resulted in the Kingdom being independent for another 800 years. Growth remained stable until the 19th century, with Roger and William’s family remaining in charge of the country.

In 1814, after the British Empire claimed control of Malta in the Treaty of Paris, Cattala was threatened by the British Navy, which was located off the south and eastern coasts of the kingdom. Surrounded by an overpowering enemy, King Harold surrendered control of his islands to the British. The island became hugely British over the next half century, and the remnants of that colonial link with England has remained strong, and embedded in Cattala’s history.
However in 1860 the Italian forces that had regained the Kingdom of Sicily also managed to launch a surprise attack on Cattala. The majority of the British troops and navy were docked in Malta at the time, and had little hope of standing up to the Italian invaders. Cattala was united with mainland Italy for the first time since the days of the Romans. However during those years, severe droughts and the end of huge British influence and trade to the islands caused the economy to shut down and many Cattalians lost all faith in the Italians.

During World War One Italy ordered all men under the age of 25 to fight for the Entente, resulting in mass emigration and huge casualty numbers for the Cattalian regiments. By the end of the war the Italian rulers were so unpopular the local President was burnt to death, and the residents began chanting the English national anthem, and shooting Italian police and troops that tried to force them to stop. Within 2 weeks of the President’s death in 1917, the Union Flag was hoisted above Palazzo Celeste, with the great-grandchildren of King Harold leaving exile in London to return to the throne.

However on the 13th June 1940 Cattala was heavily attacked by Italian bombers, and was surrounded by hundreds of warships and submarines as Italy took its first casualty of its Axis campaign. For the second time in less than 80 years, the King, now Charles the Third, was forced to hand over control of the country to Rome, and was hung.
But in July 1943, the German and Italian forces in North Africa had been forced back through Cattala, where they met hostile islanders, and continued to be pushed out of the islands by British troops. The old enemy from London had ironically freed Cattala from annexation, to which the Cattalians offered support and hospitality for the exhausted soldiers.

After World War 2, the occupying British forces remained in the country until 1951, as the people decided whether to rejoin the liberated Italy, or attempt to reinstate a monarchy. English became a hugely popular language in the country during the time, and England was portrayed as the saviour of Cattala. Hundreds of thousands of English immigrants have moved to Cattala since the friendly occupation began in 1943.
However, trying to reinstate a monarchy was hard, since the Celestine family had been killed by Italian fascists during the 1940 campaign. But the great nephew of King Charles the Third had moved to England in 1938. Marco Bonnicelli returned to his native town of Calora and received a hero’s welcome, before heading to the new capital city, Celeste, for his coronation. The country also has a Royal Government, which has been led by the “Lord of Celestine” since 1957, after the title was changed from Lord Chancellor.
The Prime Minister is appointed by the Royal and Holy Majesty to lead the country. Each Prime Minister serves a term of 3 years before re-election is forced upon them by the RHM, and they can serve a maximum of four consecutive terms as leader. Here is a list of Celestine’s since 1951:

The economy in Cattala is mainly focused on the banking and financial services sectors in Jennai, the biggest city, with agriculture and tourism making up the GDP outside of the CBD’s of each city. Industry is centred on military products and producing bio fuel and industrial-scale food production. The public sector in Cattala is much larger than the private sector, with the Government funding the National Health Service (Mutua), railways industry (Ferrovie), energy suppliers (Energie Verdi), national airline carrier (Aereo) and postal service (Postale). The national broadcaster, Sky, is heavily subsidised, along with the farming industry and local food store, the Cooperativa.
