Should the Republic of Marquette's application be approved?
APPROVED: Republic of Marquette (République de Marquette)
Before I start my application, I would like to thank all of you for taking the time to view it. Also my history is structured so I could incorporate my SC4 region into the new country.
Marquette Flag
The blue side represents the many rivers, and Lake Canada the largest lake in the country. The Green side represents the land and wildlife that is so important to the country. The Golden Dragon represents strength and power, and determination.
The Marquette Coat of Arms
History:
The Republic of Marquette was formed after long discussions by politicians from the country's main population center the Quad Cities Metro Area, and the U.S. Government. After much deliberation the U.S. decided to grant independence to the metro area, but also gave up land around it. Shortly after independence was gained in 2010, the new country set in motion its government, as well as its small military to defend itself. This year the country has been seeking to broaden its trading partners with countries other than the U.S. and Canada, and has decided to apply for AIN membership to help meet that goal.
Below is a map of AIN with the Republic of Marquette drawn in and circled:
Government:
The government is currently set up as a Parliamentary Republic and is based out of the capital city of New Chatham. Currently Parliament is split equally with 25 seats held by the MCP (Marquette Conservative Party) and the other 25 seats held by members of the MNLP (Marquette National Liberal Party), making up the total of 50 seats. Although other partys are allowed in Parliament none were presented during election time last year. Prime Minister Louie Marc Boudreau was elected after his 5 tenure as mayor of Ste. Frederic.
Marquette Parliament Building on the bank of the Chatham River
The Marquette Supreme Court hears all cases that escalate to a national level, and also oversees the actions of Parliament to make sure their decisions are within the limits of the Marquette Doctrine signed two days after the country's independence. The old Chateau de Claremont was recently converted into the Supreme Court building.
The Marquette Supreme Court building and the beautiful grounds around it
Demographics:
The country has a population of roughly 2.6 million. Made up of 68% English speaking and 30% French speaking citizens, with another 2% of other languages. The country covers about 650 square miles, however 90% of the population resides in the Quad Cities Metro Area. Major population centers are as follows:
New Chatham: 500,000
Port Charlotte: 400,000
Renior: 350,000
Kane River: 300,000
Ste. Frederic: 200,000
White Water: 55,000
Ste. Frederic is the only city among that list located outside of the Quad Cities Metro Area.
Economy:
Marquette has a growing economy which is still recovering from a recession that caused many to lose their jobs, and widespread abandonment. However revitalisation projects have transformed the urban landscape cutting all abandonded buildings nearly 65%. In fact unemployment is at its lowest, near 2.6%, and manufacturing jobs have risen substantially. Major exports include petroleum products, chemicals, and timber.
I will add more game pictures soon

Re: APPROVED: Republic of Marquette (République de Marquette)
Welcome to the AIN, and firstly thank you for applying. It's great to see a new member joining.
I'd like to start on a positive note by saying how I like your images and nation idea. I think this country has a lot of potential. However, your economic ideas seem to be a bit conflicting. You've said you had a deep recession (realistic, might I add) but then your unemployment is now at a record low and you seem to have a quick fix. I think realistically, that might need to be resolved but it is only a small thing.
As soon as you've got the rest of the necessary images then administrators will post the checklist for you so that it can go to voting/be improved further. Once again, thank you for applying and I look forward to the rest of your application.

Re: APPROVED: Republic of Marquette (République de Marquette)
Forthwall- Thank you, I had some help from wikipedia getting the GDP
Thomas- Thank you, I'm glad you think I have potential with this. Also the economy facts are a bit confusing now that I look at them again. I'll be sure to clean it up a little and make it more consistent.
I am trying to show my mix of maxis and custom content in these pictures, note that with this application, my cities are transforming more and more from maxis to custom content. Now then how about some pictures from around the country:
Part of Downtown Renior
I apologize for the two double trees, I have taken care of that
The Parc des saints (Park of the Saints) in Renior
The new M14 Beltway around the Quad Cities
St. Anica's Church in the rural town of Apple Grove
The renamed National Theatre in the Nyhaven District of New Chatham
Port Charlotte Harbor Centre, and the Stadium at Harborside home to the Port Charlotte Green Sox of the SLB
The Bell building is also seen in the picture above
A shopping center in Heilman Forest
Renior West Shopping Centre, the largest in the country
I have some more things around the mall to help blend the CC and maxis together better.
I just like this picture, Northern Electric Field home to ILB Blue Mountain Bears
If you would like to see more pictures, let me know and I will throw up some more, trust me I have many, and my picture taking/ CC use is getting better

Re: APPROVED: Republic of Marquette (République de Marquette)
Welcome Mayorm!!
I will say one to thing to first off; you are much better than when I first applied to AIN back in 2009. We used to accept new members a lot all the time, but I think in the recent past we have gotten some people that use almost all custom content in their CJs. Personally, most of my CJs were probably mostly Maxis, also.
You're a well established CJer on Simtropolis, and always bring a unique style of gameplay to the table. If I'm not mistaken, I think you were even nominated for a Trixie last year, but I can't quite remember.
Either way, you're quite dedicated, not to mention an all-around great guy to talk to and interact with. You definitely have my vote for admission.
I remember in 2009 when I was getting pretty discourage by all the nay-sayers, but then Peter came in and encouraged me, and I felt a lot more confident.
So, Mayorm, in the words of Peter, a legendary AIN member:
"We need people who love playing sim city, have experience in other unions, love to participate in union activities. I've seen your commitment in simtropolis, simsports and I think you would make a great addition to our community. My answer is YES!"

Re: APPROVED: Republic of Marquette (République de Marquette)
Forthwall- Thank you, its maxis content but that is one of my favorite maxis things Also I'm looking at various seawalls to see which ones would work best for me.
Edge- Thank you, I'm glad I gave AIN another shot, (I withdrew my first application a few years ago because I got discouraged.) Also it makes me happy to hear how much you enjoy my CJs and city building styles, and if I was nominated for a Trixie please find the link for me to see it because I don't believe I have reached that good of quality yet. Also I signed up a few years ago for the AUS but that never got off the ground so I will do my best to keep my AIN activity up.
Smartbylaw- I agree, I'm getting anxious to see if my work will pass for the high standard that all AIN members have.
While I'm posting, I might as well show off my (personal best picture editing):
Two QCTA Metro Trains cross the East Muddy River in Renior

Re: APPROVED: Republic of Marquette (République de Marquette)
As far as I'm concerned it's a yes. The admins are currently working on a major project, so that explains why they've taken a while to get here. Rest assured, though, from what I've seen it will be a mere formality and we'll see you here as a member in no time flat.

Re: APPROVED: Republic of Marquette (République de Marquette)
I'm a bit busy for a full-on application checklist, but from what I can see it's all good to me. We're changing the application guidelines anyway, so you'd get in either way.
Voting is now open - thank you for the pictures and the swift responses too.

Re: APPROVED: Republic of Marquette (République de Marquette)
Besides the thread now having my nation's name, I'm fine with it
Re: APPROVED: Republic of Marquette (République de Marquette)
I changed the name of the thread back to The Republic of Marquette (Republique de Marquette). I don't know why it switched names?
Daniel- Thank you
Thomas- Thank you, I always try to reply quickly to comments on things like this Thanks for opening the voting
Will- I don't know why the thread name changed, but I'm honored it was changed to such a great name as your country I guess I'll go ahead and rename it back to my name
Also to the person who voted for me as a full member, thank you so much, I never thought I would get a vote for that

Re: APPROVED: Republic of Marquette (République de Marquette)
It's ok, whoever put it to vote would have done that but it's no big deal
Re: APPROVED: Republic of Marquette (République de Marquette)
So one thing I have been wondering? I can't find anything on the forums that says what Associate members can and can't do, as opposed to Full Members.
Re: APPROVED: Republic of Marquette (République de Marquette)
Run for Ministries is the biggest one.. and I think since with the new site coming soon some thing will be changing with permissions.

Re: APPROVED: Republic of Marquette (République de Marquette)
I'm pretty sure the only limitation comes down to weather they can run for ministries or executive positons or not. Full members can and associates can't. Otherwise I don't know of any. I haven't encountered anything and I usually would.
Re: APPROVED: Republic of Marquette (République de Marquette)
The change was caused cause someone ( admins ) had copy and pasted [voting] + nation from will's application without changing the nations name.
Probably
