Australian Airlines is a full service airline which serves Australian domestic and selected short-haul international destinations.
Australian Airlines started in 1946 as Trans Australia Airlines (TAA) and was Australia's premier domestic airline. In 1986 it changed its name to Australian Airlines. In 1992 it was sold to Qantas by the Australian Government and shut down in 1996. Qantas revived the brand in 2001 as a full service economy airline flying a small fleet of Boeing 767s in a ghastly orange livery. It didn't last long, with the airline closing for good in 2006 and the assets re-absorbed into Qantas.
Arcacian Airlines purchased the brand from Qantas in 2010, along with all associated rights, for an undisclosed amount. This reincarnation of Australian Airlines uses the familiar retro "little Australian" livery of the 1980s and '90s.

Australian Introduces the E-Jet
The newest addition to the Australian Airlines fleet is the Brazilian made Embraer ERJ-170, or E-Jet. It will service lower demand short hops to smaller airports, like Port Macquarie, Albany and Port Augusta. The E-Jet carries 78 passengers and ensures that Australian's commitment to serving as much of Australia as possible is able to be maintained, as the small jet allows these lower demand routes to remain profitable and therefore safe from the chopping block. Eight E-Jets have started service with 4 more on order.
