Proposal | Weekly Devotion

Important Note: This is not a role-playing proposal, it's a real-life proposal. It will not affected your country in any way.

I know this isn't some new law I'm proposing, but since it concerns everyone and it's a crucial matter, I guess it should be alright if I put this up for discussion before finalizing anything.

As what the title says, the stuff that I'm proposing is this: I'm thinking of having a weekly online devotion here on AIN. What is this about is than I'll be posting online devotions weekly here in the AIN forums, possibly every weekends.

My purpose for this is to let current Christian AIN members receive a devotion weekly so that they could build up their faith with God.

As what I will expect due to a handful number of non-Chrisitian members here on AIN, what I afriad is that most of them will reject the idea for certain reasons.

Therefore, the purpose for this discussion is to get the views from everyone, Christians and non-Christians alike. The last thing I want is that AIN will separate due to conflicts like this.

To get on with the details, here's what I'm planning to do:
Create a new section under Discussion Forums called Devotion Corner.
Every weekends, either Saturday or Sunday UTC +8, I will share a devotion/sermon on the forums so that everyone could grow their faith.
The sharing will be kept as simple as possible and might be trim down from the original message.
If everthing goes well, other AIN members could share a devotion/sermon their have learn during their week.

I don't see a problem with it. If you don't like it, ignore it.

I like this idea - I'm trying to reinvigorate my faith, so it would be a nice place to start.

Neither Arcacia nor Lycanthia will take part in this is separation of church and State is enshrined in our constitution. Also, I am an Atheist.

However, neither Arcacia nor Lycanthia will object to this as freedom of religion is also enshrined in our constitution.

In short, go for it, but count me out.

What is Devotion?? Don't understand...

Erm, this weekly devotion is a real-life thing, not a role-playing thing.

But anyways, I understand your stand in this Dan.

Blake: In this context, devotion is similar to Bible Study. I was in a Methodist school and now attending Assemblies of God church, so we call it devotion. Maybe in your context it's caled Bible Study.

I'll wait for more replies and stuff before putting this up for a quick vote.

I don't really care at all

As a raised Catholic I feel that this is fine on some levels, but as the alliance has enshrined separation of church and state I feel that this could drag the Alliance into some dangerous territory... Freedom of religion is fine and all as long as one is not emphasized over another... If you want to have a devotion corner thats fine, Calaré will ignore it as it has enshrined separation of church and state.. But Calaré believes if the Devotion corner is to go ahead that it shouldn't just be for one religion but all religions represented in the Alliance

Actually, the AIN hasn't enshrined separation of church and State. Some individual countries have.

As far as representation goes, I think I've worked out that members are either devout Christians, or else they're Agnostic or Atheist. There doesn't seem to be much middle ground, nor much of a showing (if any at all) from other religions.

I don't have a problem with a devotion corner per se. Perhaps the rest of us can set up a non-devotion corner where nothing ever gets posted because we sleep in on Sunday.

Calaré won't take part... But still believes its a dangerous precedence to set and dangerous territory to enter but if enough ppl want to take part in it then fine as long as it doesn't overshadow other things in the alliance

After viewing everyone's comment, i will think deeply into the creation of the Devotion Corner. I understand that some of you are fine with it, yet others are concerned. After all, the last thing I believe everyone wants is that AIN will fall apart just because of a small matter like this.

I'll still wait for everyone's point of views on this before finalizing, then putting it on vote.

I don't see what the issue is - it's a place where people will discuss their individual faiths, it has nothing to do with countries or anything.

Personally, I don't really care what you religion or religious views are. But out of simple fairness, I think if any AIN members (present or future) of different religions would like to be able post "devotions" to share their particular faith with the rest of us, thus all of us becoming more worldly. Also, I think it should be limited to one topic per faith. Surprisingly, I'm actually for for this, because I think it would be interesting to see how others conceive religion.

PS - Dan, I like the idea

After much considerations, I'm now thinking of scrapping the idea or putting this on hold. I will not disclose the reasons for doing so.

But for now, I'll keep this open for more discussions.

After much considerations, with fears of commitment and timing, I have decided to shelf the proposal unless someone is willing to post a devotion at least once a week.
