Random&Ready Empty Random&Ready

Post by Thomas 4th July 2010, 20:52

Welcome to the Random&Ready thread, where I'll be posting some images from Cattala that don't fit anywhere else, or I need opinions and assistance on. First up:

Buildings. Now I have lots of Mediterranean buildings, they really clash with my previous British, Dutch and French styles. What should I do?

Destroy those French files and some of British! Remember that Cattala is mediterranean first.

I like the streets and the architeture realism.
If I were you I would never put industries near those old-looking houses... Its not common on that region...

Remove the terrain grids, press G in game...

Its great. But please, remove the grid. I think you better to use SC4 Startup Manager.

I'm impartial to the Med/Brit styles. Though, I would use the Med buildings for urban environments, and the British homes (not SC4) for suburban/high wealth housing.

I agree, that the industrial lots should be moved from the proximity of housing.

Oh and another thing:

The grid is only there because I was terraforming as well at the time - this isn't an official updates thread, so the images here are really informal and just print screen and show. I promise that the grid will not be there in the real updates! Cheeky/Razz

So, remove the French & Dutch, just keep the Mediterranean and British?

lol Yeah Thomas I agree. I'm not a big fan of those Dutch houses myself, they're too flat-colored, as in they're too dark/light

Anyone got any ideas on what I should do with industrial developments? I can't find any downloads that will suit the Mediterranean style.

Recently I've been looking at the Corsica CJ on Simtropolis, and I'm looking for some more eye candy lots that keep the Mediterranean style, but also make Cattala look much nicer than it does now.

After seeing that Corsica CJ, I noticed that Cattala is looking (until now - on the R&R non official updates) a bit too flat. Maybe following Corsica's style (no grided streets, no dense regions, simpler seaports and narrow roads - Like in some regions of Rhodes -) would help you making it look even nicer...

Relief will certainly help, as I said in Skype, you should develop Natural+Small towns.

I'm definitely going to have some more villages and rural towns. I'm not the best at terraforming and buildings hills though... Cheeky/Razz

Great! But in my opinion, you shouldn't have too much relief between the village and the champs.

Actually that's quite common in Sicily, Tuscany and the Corsica CJ - they are quite often on steep slopes - especially olive trees and grape vines, which sadly wouldn't grow. Cheeky/Razz
