As athletes leave, Providence goes quiet.
After 20 days of competition and a festival that lasted a month, the AIN's best athletes have departed Arcacian shores. Providence Airport was the place to be this evening as the athletes left, many carrying with them a swag of medals.
Arcacia's athletes from Saint Vincent were the first to leave aboard a scheduled SouthAir flight at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Twelve of Arcacia's athletes came from Saint Vincent, including gold medal winning gymnast Kylie Mathers who will once again have to get used to life in sleepy Kindletown.
The Lycanthian team departed a few hours later aboard an Air Lycanth jet for the half-hour flight to Lycanthia. With 6 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals, Lycantia's athletes surprised everyone with a rush for gold on the last day of competition.
Calaré's athletes followed a few minutes later, with a CalAir flight taking them to Duval, about an hour away from Providence. Calaré also nabbed several gold medals in their first ever AIN Games.
Arcacian Airlines shuttled the Aleksanian team to Sydney to meet an Aleksanian International Airlines flight home. They were followed into the air by a vast array of airliners of all description bound for every AIN country. No doubt a heroes welcome awaits every team.
So, the streets of Providence are once again quiet as the post-festival hangover begins. After a solid month of music, street performers, souvenir sellers and tourists, it will no doubt take Providencians a while to readjust to life without the Games.
The cleaners have moved into the Athletes' Village, Olympic Park is all but deserted. There are once again empty seats on the Metro. The steady stream of people through the centre of Providence has dried up and shops are once again closing at 9pm.
Over the last month, Providence had a taste of what it was to be a global city, and they liked it. The resolve to bring the Simlympics to Arcacia is stronger than ever with many locals, bittersweet about the end of the AIN Games, saying: "Bring on 2011!"
