Role of the Security Council
Role of the Security Council
The security council is here to protect peace and international security, to uphold civil and human rights and to punish those who breach the rules of our Union Constitution. All of the roles and information below has been democratically voted on within the Senate.
Positions within Council
President: The President of the Alliance may sit on the Council as a permanent member if he so wishes. He can veto a vote if he feels it will be detrimental to the status of a member within the alliance or will impact negatively on the union.
Permanent Members: Five member states are democratically elected by all members of the union. Their extended powers include the ability to veto a proposal or sanction, making it null and void. They are elected for life, unless they resign or are removed from their position by the Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs (MJCA), who reviews permanent membership at each Union Election, held every February and September.
Non-Permanent Members: These five members are democratically elected by members of their geographic region. Elections to this position are held every three months - in February, May, September and December and are presided over by the MJCA. These members represent every nation in their region* and therefore can be removed from their position following a vote by the other nations in their region. The MJCA can also remove the nation if it is inactive.
*The five regions of the Alliance are Europe, Middle East and Africa, North America, South America and the Atlantic, Oceania and Asia.
Positions within Council
All ten positions within the Council will be voted on this month, and will continue in their roles until December for non-permanent members. Permanent members will be reviewed in February. I will be opening up a thread for Permanent Members to be voted on separately, and five threads for non-permanent members to be voted on. So please go to those threads if you wish to be a Permanent or Non-Permanent member.
I will not be utilising my position as a sixth permanent member in my own right - so the President's permanent membership will be empty until September. The next President can decide for themselves whether they wish to take up the seat.

Re: Role of the Security Council
The Alliance Security Council is now open and fully functioning. To see if you are a member of the council, please check the Council Members thread.
The layout of the Council will be that topics will be opened in the Petitions forum, and then when the petition is talked about by the council it is moved to Discussions forums. Then, when the council has made a decision and voted, it is moved to Resolutions where the sanction or declaration of voting results is made. This is where all topics submitted will end.
