Ask more questions. Asking the right questions unlocks a clue.
Here's what you have so far:
The business partner and the wife killed him. They used the syringe.
What you don't have:
What was in the syringe? Why did they do it? Who did what? Why was he found fully clothed in the backyard?

Ooooh!
Were there more than one "poke marks" from the syringe on the victim?

Was the object in the syringe an over-the-counter drug or fluid?

Does this fluid have any content of alcohol?
If no, is it water?

Re: Mile End Murder Mystery
It's not alcoholic.
It is water, but there's something about it that makes it more dangerous than if it were plain.

Did the water come from a reliable AND clean source?

Re: Mile End Murder Mystery
Hold on, I think I might have it.
WHO did it, the Business Partner and the wife (you said so on page 3)
HOW they did it, using the syringe filled with water from a bottle with BPA in it (thus poisoning the victim)
and WHY they did it, you mentioned that the business partner and the wife were having an affair. The wife had lots of life insurance and didn't like the husband. The business partner had the money. Doesn't sound like a bad idea to get the hubby out of the way, eh?

Re: Mile End Murder Mystery
You're about 90% of the way there. What you said was in the water is incorrect. There was no Bisphenol A in it. Clue: Nothing was added to the water by the murderer. Whatever was in the water was already there.
You also need to work out who did what. Did the wife inject him? Or was it the business partner? If it was the business partner, how did he do it without the victim's knowledge?

Re: Mile End Murder Mystery
I can possibly pinpoint this: If the wife did this. She would inject him with insulin. Insulin has to be mixed with water to dilute the potency.
There could be a possibility that the business partner and the victim's wife were sleeping together, and they plotted the idea. Police should check phone records of these two, including the brother and best friend. Also check email records, we're in the 21st century.
How it could be done: Well I'm assuming that victime was asleep when the wife or business partner injected a dab of insulin down his throat.
But this is my theory.

Re: Mile End Murder Mystery
We've already covered the fact that it wasn't insulin.
But, you are right about one thing - the victim was asleep when it happened.
