Re: Mile End Murder Mystery
The wife did it. (an old saying, "the greatest enemy is the one you truly trust") THe murder had to occur in the night or early morning hours where most people don't particularly awake 3 til 5 am.
The business partner is an accomplice. Probably supplied the trihalomethanes or haloacetic acids for his partner's wife. I'd check the financial records. To be honest I don't know how would he obtain things like that unless he's an investor of a water bottling company.
Also, I'd check up on the wife's spending habits. (i.e. new clothes, jewelry, lavish accessories.) 1+1 = 2 and 2 X 2 = 4.

If no one has worked it out by Friday, I will post the solution. You have 72 hours to figure it out.

Had the bottle been opened before he swallowed the contents?

He didn't swallow the contents, they were injected.

Re: Mile End Murder Mystery
Has there been examinations of the liquid from the bottle, either from the bottle itself or from inside the deceased's body?
If so, has there been any strange chemicals found within the liquid?

Re: Mile End Murder Mystery
Then a dawning question: How can the victim not feel a pinching pain in his arm? I would've woken up if it was me. Seriously, I have an older brother and younger brother who would play jokes on me while I sleep, especially when they pinched me.
Did autopsy found chloroform in his body? Because there is no way a victim would sleep through a needle mark. Not even a dead-tred; deep sleeper.
A second substance was used to make sure he never awoke. Anesthetic, or chloroforme. Something.

Ray - he was injected between the toes.
There was no chloroform, but he was given something to make him sleep.
Whatever was injected left no trace. There were no strange chemicals involved.
If you drank what was injected, you would be completely unharmed.

Re: Mile End Murder Mystery
Thank you for the hint.
He was injected with air. That would cause the heart to fail, and air doesn't acutally leave a chemical trace.
If he ingested something to make him sleep, it would have to be something that would sleep through a sharp sting from a needle. Even if it was in the foot Dan. No way you can bypass that. Usually something like that would have to have the power of an anesthetic; minus the chemical trace of anesthetic.

Re: Mile End Murder Mystery
Ray - You are correct. He was injected with soda water. The bubbles traveled to his heart and caused the heart attack.
Hint: He was on prescription medication.
Interesting sidenote - in stage 4 of sleep, the deepest stage, it is actually very hard to wake a person up. Especially if the person was assisted chemically to get there.

Re: Mile End Murder Mystery
Okay, this thread seems to have stagnated. So, here is the solution:
*****
The victim was killed by the business partner. His wife was an accomplice. The two were having an affair and wanted the victim out of the way. The wife stood to collect $1 million in life insurance, the business partner stood to inherit the victims half of their business which he intended on selling. With the proceeds, they intended on fleeing the country. In order for their plan to work, they had to make it seem as though the victim had died of natural causes, as such a ruling by the coroner would assure the quickest payout by the insurance company and guarantee that his share of the business was signed over to his partner.
The victim was an insomniac and was taking sleeping pills. At about 11pm on the night of his death, his wife gave him his pills with a cup of tea. The pills worked quickly and the man was soon asleep. His wife then called the business partner to the house. Using one of the wife's needles, which she used for daily insulin injections, the business partner injected soda water into a vein between the victim's toes. A few minutes later, the carbonated water found its way to his heart and caused him to suffer a heart attack.
After making sure he was dead, the victim's wife and business partner dressed him and dragged him out to the backyard, where they dumped his body. The business partner then left the premises. The following morning, the victim's wife went back out to the yard and pretended to discover her husband's body. Neighbours came to her aid and called the police.

Re: Mile End Murder Mystery
I thought that the wife turned the heater up REALLY high while he was napping, and Dropped the temperature Drasticly low, causing the victim to have a heart attack. then she moved him outside.
